Hip-hop equivalent of Chinese Democracy.
And it will probably be just as much of a letdown to the general public.

Fingers crossed, but chances are he has lost his touch... it happens when you've been living in a mansion for the past 20 something years. And 10 years a new generation are gonna be saying the same thing. Except they will look back on today's rappers as the best. Times change.Y2Jfan23Beat me to it. Also LL cool J I could stand but all the ganster rappers you listed were just as crap as lil wayne, the only reason anybody bought their rubbish was because they sold violence and rebellion... :|.
Good mainstream rap may be dead, not rap in general.
This song by Nujabes and Substanial is lyrically awesome, and sends an intellectual/positive message:

It's sad man, it really is. I used to be a really, really big fan. Not only that, I produced, MCed, went to lots of shows, helped keep the local scenes going wherever I lived... Stuff like Biggie, Wu-Tang, 2Pac, Dre, Outkast, Pharcyde, the Roots, Common, Tribe Called Quest, NWA, Dre, Snoop, etc etc etc were classics. Rap has not been the same since Pac and Big died, and it hasn't even been good for years now, apart from Jay-Z, Nas, and a few others. I can't stand the current commercial stuff like Lil Wayne and T-Pain. It's just created this whole other dynamic of rap music where 2 people can be "rap music fans", but one likes Apathy, Aesop Rock, MF Doom, Brother Ali, etc., and the other one likes T-Pain, Clipse, Lady Gaga and they will never meet in the middle. Honestly I think it's junk now, it's turned me off of rap entirely, and to say I was a "big fan" would be a tremendous understatement. Now I listen to more rock, and keep my reggae going, among others. In terms of rap I still listen to the same stuff I did 10 years ago.Hahadouken
i would not put clipse in that same sentence as t-pain, and lady gaga. Clipse is not crap like the other 2 listed.
Wow, that was actually a great song. I really like the optimistic rhymes.Good mainstream rap may be dead, not rap in general.

No dude, just no. You cannot compare the likes of Tupac and Biggie with Lil Wayne. The artists that I listed were not sellling their albums off of violence. The were all talented writers who just made great music.
They tell violent stories, though. Yes, every song they made wasn't violent, but you have to admit, their street stories got them recognized. No dude, just no. Drake, Cudi, Wale can still save mainstream hiphopScarface_tm431Drake needs to disassociate himself from Lil Wayne and Young Money. His material is getting old. Also, since I found out he was an actor on Degrassi, it's hard for me to take him seriously anymore. Cudi.. never really liked him. He's just too experimental. Wale... I did enjoy Attention Deficit, but he's not getting he exposure he needs here in Colorado. The radio played Chillin' a few times, and then that was it.
Rap/Hip-hop is better than ever. The only difference between the 90s and now is that the good stuff isn't on the radio and TV, but it's still there.
You're missing out.Nothing 'happened' to rap. It has always been terrible. It's rap that 'happened' to music.

Sorry. My taste is a little too sophisticated to enjoy the mind-numbing repetition, lack of melody, and lack of rhythmic creativity that is rap. While it might technically be 'music,' I don't even consider it that.
