It makes no sense to me. They do it for the toys.
flavort
Christians do it to avoid going to work.
lol, generalizations.

[QUOTE="flavort"][QUOTE="JJ4545"][QUOTE="Whight_Knight"]You think being Christian gives you the "right" to celebrate christmas?Yes , they do , when they really don't have any right to ... don't have a right to revcieve presents or anything at all.Personally, I think athiests at Christmas should not get Christmas bonus , school holidays for Christmas etc.Because they don't believe in it.
The_Ish
Is that a trick question?
Being Christian does not give one the "right" to be Christian. Just being does.
everybody has the right to do anything really

First off...athiests like being with their family...second off, Christmas is celebrated by a seculargovernment, if you're going to deny athiests the right to celebrate a secular holiday n the grounds that it's supposed to be religious...then we shouldn't have Christmas as a holiday in the first place. Or even Christmas bonuses.
Christmas bonuses are a business decision to make, whether it is out of kindness or not. I agree with your logic about that. Religious holidays have nothing to do with the government. Anyway they have never sent me a Christmas card so what do you mean they celebrate it? Many holidays are acknowledged. I do understand if your point is they give Christmas vacations and maybe not Hanukkah vacation. I do think that teachers that are not Christian dont need to come to work on their religious holidays as well as the students. It might be weird to keep school open for Christmas if the majority of the kids are Christians.[QUOTE="flavort"]everybody has the right to do anything really

Yes, thank you for agreeing with me.
I celebrate every religion so I dont have to go to work
flavort
And others celebrate every holiday to be with their family...so don't generalize.
Your family can decide to have a family day that they celebrate once a month to be together also so whats the significance? I was not generalizing either it was more of a joke of your generalization that Christians celebrate Christmas to get out of work.
Because Christmas is not a religious holiday, it is a commercial holiday. And as for the "birth of Jesus" argument, he was born in the spring, Christmas is a pagan winter solstice festival adapted and reinterpreted by Christians.
foxhound_fox
Actually that is right. Many things were celebrated at that time so Christians decided that was when to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

And so whats wrong with one more day? Not everyone celebrates someone else's religion for materialistic religions, so your generalizations are still wrong.

Nothings wrong with that. To say that the majority, LARGE majority, does not celebrate Christmas for materialistic reasons is absurd.Yes , they do , when they really don't have any right to ... don't have a right to revcieve presents or anything at all.Personally, I think athiests at Christmas should not get Christmas bonus , school holidays for Christmas etc.Because they don't believe in it.

The Bible tells you why "he" lets us and why we do.

To say they do is absurd.
depends I guess if you talk about kids or adults.
Not really.
It's more of a secular holiday now (like all the other major ones), more about family, and celebration than whatever they are originally meant for.
To me X-mas is about seeing family, eating food, and spoiling yourself and others... Half of Christians probably don't even celebrate Jesus's "birth"..... I mean, the Christians who go to church like once a year...
The gifts aren't even a big thing to me anymore. I just like the food and the family.Free stuff and family.

Being around family? Presents? Being materialistic? Holiday? Pretty obvious. I'd celebrate it to if people would give me gifts for it. But sadly they can look at me and see I'm just posing. (look at avatar)
Just b/c you're atheist doesn't mean you can't take advantage of religion to satisfy your materialistic urges. (I'm sooo wordy)

Almost no one in the US celebrates christmas. They celebrate the thing commercialismturned christmas into. It's supposed to be a day to honor jesus with your family, not opening gifts under an inexplicable tree in your house. I'm atheist and I celebrate the gift opening part. I don't care who December 25 is supposed to honor. All I know is it's my favorite day of the year and if you don't like that, well then **** you.
after all christmas came from religion and the reason it is celebrated is bc of jesus' birth. so y do atheists celebrate x-mas?kbubba92Oh please, these days many people are more concerned about the commercialized aspects of the holiday instead of religion. As for me, I'm a Buddhist and celebrate Christmas. Wait how does that make sense? Well, my family and many other non-Christians I know like the idea of gift giving and spending time with the family and all that traditional stuff, excluding the religious nature of it during the winter season.
Pre-Christian winter festivals
A winter festival was traditionally the most popular festival of the year in many cultures. Reasons included less agricultural work needing to be done during the winter, as well as people expecting longer days and shorter nights after the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.[1] In part, the Christmas celebration was created by the early Church in order to entice pagan Romans to convert to Christianity without losing their own winter celebrations.[2][3] Most of the most important gods in the religions of Ishtar and Mithra had their birthdays on December 25. Various traditions are considered to have been syncretised from various winter festivals.
'Christmas', as we call it, has traditionally been a time of celebration. Christians didn't invent the holiday - they just adopted it from other cultures.
