I've gone to 3 colleges, all of their email systems sucked hard. FAU has the best so far, but its archaic! Thank God they let me forward emails to outside addresses automatically.
man, I spent a month on this question and nobody would help. I settled on Gmail. Better, faster, almost no spam (I have yet to get one), and the little things like autosave and combining conversations to single lines are great. Best of all, it's updated faster and with better updates.

mhm. It's pretty decent. They're pretty much all the same though.
Gmail because they introduced a very fast interface (thanks to JavaScript) and 1 GB originally. I had to switch having only 2 MB with MSN Hotmail. I know, the other companies have caught up but I have grown to love Gmail (or Google Mail, so they call it in the UK).
I use hotmail, I tried G-mail, but didn't like it. Hotmail is convenient since I have msn and I can just click the button to get email when I turn the computer on. I don't even use msn messenger anymore.
