Why? Is hollywood that desperate? C'mon a Transformers 4 would make more sense!

Liam Neeson is in it, so automatically I'm going to watch it at some point. It looks like it could be fun though, people just need to relax and have fun with movies. As long as I am entertained the movie is successful in my book. david_critic
I can be entertained without being treated like I have a sub-zero IQ.
Why didn't they just make a cool movie about ship to ship combat, like master and commander, but with modern day ships and tactics? I don't know how modern naval battles work (since there haven't been any to my knowledge), that would have been more interesting to me than ANOTHER alien ship invasion movie.

instead of aliens as an excuse to lose radar function they could of just been EMPed...but no...they had to have anything but a unique storyline.

How so? Not familiar with the modern day naval arsenal and things.

RGM-84 Harpoon Anti-Ship missile
Kh-35 Anti-Ship Missile
Modern ship-to-ship combat would last a matter of minutes with weapons like this, they don't even have to be near eachother because these missiles have a range of a hundred miles or so.
The only way of having a lasting battle between two ships would be if all the modern equipment somehow failed and they had to rely on artillery.
200 million?
Dont get me wrong, I am all for movies, good or bad. But didnt Avatar cost 300 million? 200 million seems like an awful lot to spend on a movie that will likely not be half as good as a movie that cost a lot more than it should.
Arent we in a recession? Where do they find the money to spend?

oh man, seeing that Harpoon clip take me back...Discovery Channel used to have these two shows called "Wings" and "Firepower". I used to watch them all the time. They had the best narrators, too; this one "Wings" series, I think it was "Wings of Russia" or something, had this deep-voiced Russian narrator and it was great.
Ahhhhhh thank you, gave me a little reminder of childhoold with that clip!

Ah, so the movie would be ships firing these missiles, then waiting lol. I recall reading an article about a laser the navy is developing to shoot down ballistic missiles, now I can see how significant something like that would be...

It's strange, in the movie trailer it just shows them firing artillery, maybe cause their radar was down and what-not.[QUOTE="CrossChecked"][QUOTE="MushroomWig"]

It has already been used to take down the devastator in transformers 2.
