Yes I know. Im talking about reading. How horrible it is. Seriously though I want to know some of people's favorite books. I've been looking for something to read and I want to know what everyone recommends. I read all the Harry Potter's already and I want to read the Narnia's before the next movie comes out so sorry to all those hardcore fans. I don't want to read the Lord of the rings either. They don't have to be books of a series like I gave as examples. Just tell me your recommended favorite book that's either a single or part of a series.

Yes , People can read. Oh my. Really no one thinks it is a big deal. Most read here. I recommend The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub.

"Watership Down" is a timless classic that people of all ages should read.

Try "Good Omens" from Terr Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. It's a funny parady for apocalypse.

I'll recommend what I always recommend: The "Odd" series by Dean Koontz.

The books go in this order:

Odd Thomas

Forever Odd

Brother Odd

Odd Hours (This one comes out in the spring)

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.

It is one of the most important books to read. I haven't finished it yet but it's amazing (and relevant to real life).

Any compilation of works by H.P. Lovecraft or Franz Kafka.

If you're into fantasy liteature, R.A. Salvatore is a good writer. Same with George R.R. Martin.

"The Mirror of Her Dreams" and "A Man Rides Through" by Stephen Donaldson are my favorite fiction, and Karen Armstrong's "A History of God" is my favorite non-fiction (I'll wait for the latter half of that sentence to become controversial)

I also liked The Shadow of the Wind, and the Eragon books. They were much better than the movie, please don't judge them on the crappy movie

House of Leaves - Mark Z. Danielewski

I'm reading it right now and man it is one hell of a book. Make sure to get the second edition, the first one is practically a research project (gotta take a lot of notes.), but, that's what I heard, I only have the second edition, and I've had no problems or citations to make.

Word. Objectivists ftw

For the OP: Check out George R.R. Martin, and Steven Erikson's fantasy series. Both better than LOTR.

She has both Ps covered- physically (I apologize for the ad hominem but it was true) and philosophically. Of course I'm biased since I prefer Dostoevsky and Kierkegaard.

If you want science fiction, I recommend Dune by Frank Herbert (followed by the entire series ncluding those written by his son Brian Herbert).

If you want war, it doesnt get better than Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. Its basically about World War III, except its conventional (no nukes). its great because it goes from battles in the atlantic with submarines, destroyers, and carriers to tank battles in Germany to recon missions in Iceland. Really awesome book, dont shun it off just cuz its Clancy.

For other, I recommend Slaughterhouse 5, Brave New World, and Shogun. Shogun is one of my favs, definately a great read if you are at all interested in samurai culture.
