I'm talking about not using up resources, causing pollution, etc. You think we will be eventually able to save the planet? Someone long time ago said that all of us want our big screen TVs, for example, so that resources will be used to create those TVs, so judging by his stating this, he believed no. So, OT, what do you think?

And sorry about wording it a little weird.

I'd guess a mass extinction would be the only way to slowly revive the planet, unless we can somehow eradicate all the "bad gas," or move it somewhere else lol.

It's kind of like what Agent Smith said during the movie the Matrix. I think he said humans are unlike other species, that we move to a new area, multiply, and consume the available resources on the planet. He said we were like a disease.

Tell that to the people who are born after you. it's probably move to Mars, or somehow continue to live on Earth in possibly worse conditions.

I think so, look around you. The current non-sustainable system with it's horrible inefficiencies are beginning to collapse. I have faith in humanity, the cold hard finger of reality is prepping itself and is headed straight for our warm winkywoos.

Exactly. The illusion of infinite growth on a finite planet is absolute madness.

You can't destroy energy, all we're doing is transforming resources into different things, this only causes humans problems, the planet is completely fine with this situation.

Nothing is a resource until you can actually use it. Gasoline was a waste product before it could be harnessed to power machines. We don't have unlimited resources in terms of what we use now, but we have no idea what could becomne a resource in the future

It will fix itself. The human population is no different than animal populations and there is a carrying capacity. What happens if humans are not able to advance technology enough and lose necessary resources? Humans die until there are few enough people left that the limited resources can sustain the population.

What species rules over other species, eats up resources, kills off wildlife and plant life, with no sign of ending this process? Forgive me for quoting Bible verses, but God told the people to multiply and increase on the planet, and to rule over all the other animals. I think that is exactly what is happening.

I dont think that Carlin wouldnt mind the depletion of fossil fuels and the constant pollution of our biosphere.........that video is always used to misrepresent himBossPerson

How so?

That may be a problem for PEOPLE (as he pointed out, quite superbly) but not for the planet. Earth isn't going to go anywhere, at least not by our hands.

I don't think we have the means to destroy the plant. However, if we continue the way we are, then we will be the ones to drive ourselves away from it.

Last time I looked bacteria have been pretty well looked after by humans, rats have done very well too. Earthworms and gulls love our landfills ect The big organisms like rhinos and elephants make up a tiny amount of the species on the planet, the majority are insect size or smaller.

America has enough gas to support the whole nation for at least 200 years. I don't think we have anything to worry about. If anything, we should stop buying all foreign oil and start using our own exclusively. It would drive down gas prices and by the time our oil runs out, we will have perfected a viable renewable energy source.

This. We as a species will die LONG before the planet, or life on the planet, will ever die out. Even if we WANT to end all life on the planet, it would still find a way to survive. It has survived worse.

Humanity is in far greater danger than Earth, and the laws of physics pretty much make us helpless to defend ourselves from that danger.
