Arctic Monkeys are pretty mainstream in the UK. Aren't they?

Pavement is good. I like Mercy Arms too. And Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is my favorite.

I love Turn On The Bright Lights, the first album by Interpol, seriously, it's some of the best stuff I've ever heard in any genre. Too bad after that they went completely downhill and just lost their touch, I don't know what happened to them, but I can't recognize an Interpol song anymore...

I also like a mexican band called Mocordio, I think that's all the indie rock I listen to.

Both of those bands are good but The Silversun Pickups seriously impressed me with their debut album. I havn't heard a new album from a new band like that in years, really good stuff.

Dude, i love your taste in music Interpole is a really good band, probably one of the best if not the best new aged band. Turn On The Bright Lights is an album so above its time, it really is genius. But they have been going down hill after their last album imo, i thought Antics (the re-realese though) was a great album.

I agree about Turn On The Bright Lights, but none of their albums after that did anything for me at all, the genius was just gone imo.

Well, Antics was a different step than Turn On The Bright Lights and i thought it was a good album as well. I mean Song Seven is on a completly different level than most songs off TotBL. Btw Mocordio rocks really hard!

QFT

Also, Guided By Voices, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, and I suppose you could consider mewithoutyou, Minus The Bear, and Portugal. The Man

(I've just been listening to a lot of noise lately, literally, that and Godspeed You! Black Emperor lately so I may be out of synch of what is and isnt "indie" atm)

When I think "indie", I think alternative or sort of like modern rock, iunno. I guess it is supposed to mean independent. I really don't know

If by the first definition, I'd go with Radiohead.

If by the second, probably Torche, I heard about them because I heard they were a mix of Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age, and they're pretty cool.

The problem is Song Seven is pretty much the only good thing they've done since Bright Lights, everything else just feels forced and uninspired imo.

And yes, Monocordio are really good, they really freshened up my music library when I discovered them, and Escalera is one of the best songs I've ever heard.

Portugal. The Man. They're the only Indie band I like, although The Fall Of Troy I suppose holds some Indie elements to them.

ya I was kind of late to the interpol scene so I got all their stuff at once lol and I cant listen to the other stuff any more. Like you said, Song Seven is good but I feel like a big p**** listening to the new whiny songs.

I also forgot to mention TV on The Radio (the video for Province is simply awesome imo, and I cant explain why)

Glad to see someone mention why?, great band.

ya I literally found out about them two weeks ago from the guy I work with. Theyre great, the lyrics are simply priceless!

"In Berlin I saw
two men ****
just the slight jingle
of pocket change pulsing"

"If you grew up with white boys
who only look at black and peurto rican porno
cuz they want something their dad dont got
then you know where youre at"

awesome
