I've never understood why people think Avenged Sevenfold is Metal, because it clearly isn't.
Ummm everything up untill this last cd was definitely metal.......
If you say Avenged isn't metal, then you mine as well say Iron Maiden isn't metal....
No it wasn't, it was more hard rock and metalcore, and metalcore isn't usually considered to be real metal. Iron Maiden is real metal and it's completely different here. None of this pop-rock bull****.
It is easy to tell the dumb metal-heads when they bring up this "real-metal" BS.
Metalcore is metal, live with it.
Oh and don't kid yourself, Iron Maiden is poppy as hell. Good God Avenged is more metal than they are. They are a terrible, terrible band and get wayyy more credit than they deserve.
No, metalcore is essentially an offshoot that originated from the punk and hard rock scene, it's more or less a metal wannabe sub-genre with no real main genre, it's just there.
It doesn't matter if Iron Maiden is a little mainstream here and there, it's still good, they were essentially the progenitors of power metal, by that virtue and the fact that they are way better in terms of quality, they are more "metal" than a7x could possibly hope to be (though I don't usually use metal as an adjective).
If you don't consider Metal to be your main genre, or if you haven't had much experience with it, you obviously don't have much criterion or even any authority to actually try and make A7X seem more legitimate, what it all boils down to is that it's not real Metal. Obviously by virtue of the fact that I myself have been listening to Metal since Kindergarten and the fact that it's one of the few genres of music that I like, obviously I'm prone to a much better definition of what is and isn't Metal.
Deal with it.
Edit: Gamespot is deleting period marks again...
LMAO you are such an egotistical tool!
I listen to many different kinds of metal. Thrash, death, industrial, nu, math, and industrial metal bands are all part of my library. You are a complete idiot for even suggesting you have a better definition of metal than I do without even knowing what I listen to.
Iron Maiden, especially the later stuff I checked out, are less metal than A7X. Crap like "Number of the Beast" and "Run to the Hills" do not have much of a metal sound at all. Their later stuff is nothing more than hard rock.
A7X not only had the heavy sound with their first couple of albums, but theythen went for a more old-school metal feel with City of Evil. There is no way you could call tracks like "The Wicked End""The Beast and the Harlot" and "Trashed and Scattered" not-metal especially if you claim Iron Maiden is metal. I will just assume the only Avenged song you have heard is Bat Country and let you off the hook. I suggest taking this opurtunity to walk away with your tail between your legs before you make an even bigger tool of yourself than you already have. I am so sick of these purist idiots who run around trying to claim that any moderately popular metal band isn't "real metal".

For one, the fact that Iron Maiden keeps their sound consistent to what it has always been doesn't make them any less metal. It doesn't matter, the dynamics of the band and the composure as well as the sound are technically Metal, it's power Metal, so it's not about being heavy and low and what you would define as "metal," which appears to be maligned at best.
I'll admit, I used to be a into them in ninth grade. In fact, a good deal of stuff that I hate now days I used to like back then. Stuff like Sum 41 and Linkin Park would be a good example here. Either way, I don't like it now, and I probably won't like it again. Based on the fact that you assume that their sound is metal because of the lower tunings and the weird breakdowns essentially means that you don't seem to have much of a taste for what is metal because of the fact that the many mechanics that they tend to incorporate in their songs don't have a real metal touch. Their breakdowns don't really give you that surge of energy that they should because of the fact that they are cut short and they don't build up any tension (if you don't know what a breakdown is by this point, then just stop posting).
If you're going to compare two completely different bands that follow different structure and mechanics, at least do it where it counts. A7X doesn't have the melodic structure and composure of Iron Maiden, and I'll admit that Maiden is a little light compared to most metal of today, but the fact is, they have kept themselves true to their sound, and they don't pull any of this spontaneous reformation crap that A7X did.
But then again if you're just going to go ahead and skip the mechanics and dynamics of what makes Metal what it is, then you may as well just give it up, because A7X essentially blows off everything that counts and just goes straight for the mass appeal. In that nature, I completely disrespect them. And I honestly don't care how much of a tool you call me. If you're going to just ignore the ground mechanics and just blurt out that "Maiden isn't heavy at all" without giving them any merit to the fact that they pioneered a massive sub-genre, then you may as well blow off everything else. Fact is, they're completely different and can't be compared. Go ahead, call me a tool, call me a brainless metal-head, tell me to walk away with my tail between my legs and just disregard what counts. It'll make you look like the biggest fool in the end.
Anyway, I'm gonna go to bed now.
Apocalyptica
Children of Bodom
Dethklok
Finntroll
In Flames
Iron Maiden
Metallica
Sonata Arctica
that just a few ^^
Psychedelic Polka. ;) It's hard to say which one is my favourite, I really like Pain of Salvation, Entombed and Sentenced .Slayer, Megadeth, Opeth, Iron Maiden, Possessed
I'd consider Primus over Possessed, but I really don't know whether to classify them as metal or not. They're too unique. :?
JoshXXXXX
ugh, whoever says Dethklok seriously needs to wake up and find metal that doesn't suck.
The Faceless is my favorite at the moment.

I have listened to a lot of tech death, and The Faceless is just my preference. If you know any good ones tell me, and I'll bet I've listened to them and don't enjoy their music. Most death metal is boring as hell.
Deathklok is a good example, they just suck. I've listened to the whole album and it just plain sucks. The show does too. Its not funny.

1. I wasn't praising Dethklok
2. No i don't think i could. I don't listen to that much tech death. A little too chaotic for my taste.
3. Hmm death metal is boring? Maybe it's just me. I don't even mind slow doom.
Just adding salt to the wound  The Faceless started as a Necrophagist cover band.X360PS3AMD05
yep, I knew that. Both are great imo, but The Faceless has a keyboard player that gives them an extra layer of awesomeness to their sound.

1. I know, I also know opinon doesn't equal fact (from your previous post). I have a brain.
2. Ok then, so why even post what you did? (that I should listen to myself or whatever)
3. Yes it is. Trust me, I've listened to a lot of genres of metal, and death metal is pretty generic. Of course there are generic bands in every genre and sub-genre of music, but seriously, its boring. The vocals especially.

Seeing them on Sunday :Pawesome, dammit get me a shirt
I saw them in may, and didn't like them at the time. I was hanging around their merch area for awhile before the show not knowing they'd be pwning my face in a couple hours.
I find hardcore vocals generic :|X360PS3AMD05
most are, I'd rather have a mix of hardcore/death metal vox that just straight death metal though. Vocalists with no range bore me.
Megadeth, but I've been listening to Behemoth more than any other band at this time.kingkilla3:evil: Very nice.
Demon Hunterdarthzew
they were my favorite when I first got into metal years ago. Hey I'll give you my DH sweatshirt thats been rotting in my closet for two years lol (I don't like them anymore)
Martyr, Gorguts, !T.O.O.H.!, Meshuggah, Psycroptic, Nile, Suffocation, Atheist, Dismember and early Entombed.
Mostly Martyr though.
Mostly definately Martyr.

Okay first off I have talked to Maiden fans who have even said themselves that they are pretty much hard rock now and what I checked out confirms such. As for them being pioneers of power metal, I say nay. I have seen them classified simply as "heavy metal" which honestly is the same catergory I might class Avenged even if their City of Evil stuf isn't all-too heavy. Regardless of that, even if Maiden was the originator of power metal, that would give me more reason to dislike them. I cannot stand power metal.....
Oh and yeah, trying define what is and what isn't metal in terms of breakdowns is stupid. If you really know so much about metal then you would also know just how different the genre has become. There are subgenres so different from others that you couldn't compare them i.e. try comparing doom to thrash. You can't say what is and isn't metal but looking for such specific things. The fact is Avenged has the metal attitude, metal sound (Albeit less in CoE and non-existent in their crapfest of a new cd) and they are classified as metal by everyone other than stubborn purists such as yourself.
Oh and I love how you get on Avenged for changing their sound up. You know I consider that a quality of a good band if they can change their sound up and still sound good. Not being able to do so has actually caused me to not like certain bands such as ACDC and Shadows Fall because it doesn't even seem like they bother changin the tuning on their guitars even for different albums...
I will admit I don't think Avenged has changed for the better this time, but I thought City of Evil was a cool and interesting sound. I personally do wish they would go back to their Waking the Fallen sound because hearing their cover of "Walk" made me miss their heavy sound...
Martyr, Gorguts, !T.O.O.H.!, Meshuggah, Psycroptic, Nile, Suffocation, Atheist, Dismember and early Entombed.
Mostly Martyr though.

How the hell has no-one mentioned Norma Jean yet? Or Dillinger, you all listen to horrid metal, the gross death obsessed kind.
Oh and that kid who keep say Avenged isn't metal... whilst I agree, you said in you're list that RATM and Audioslave are metal, so clearly you know diddly squat.

Oh yeah. Totally love Dillinger.
My favourite song sounds something like cats bashed against their guitars. I love the chord progression based on like a exponential and reciprocal function at the some time. Don't forget the climax where the time signature was picked from a 23-sided dice.
Hardcore stuff.
