What was your first car? And I'm getting my own car soon so what cars would you recommend? I'm thinking of getting the 2010 Honda Civic Si Coup or the 2011 Hyundai Sonata. I don't know much about cars...please give me some info on what car i should purchase!!

1995 Nissan Altima Gxe. Was a great car. Got it in 2002, and drove it all the way up to spring of this year before I got my new cars. Payed 800 bucks for it. That sucker was a trooper.

Not much basically for 1K you can get a real decent dirtbike. If you can holdout and save 2k more you can actually get a real decent machine off craigslist etc.

My first car was an old white 1976 Trans Am with red leather interior and huge red flaming chicken painted on the hood. I had to sell it because I couldn't afford to maintain it. The tires alone were $400 apiece in 80's prices.

Mine was a 1983 Nissan Pulsar NX that I paid $600 for. The clutch was going out on it when I bought it, and by the time I learned how to drive a stick the clutch needed replaced.

Beats me. It's been 15 years since I sold the thing. Sports car tires aren't cheap. Even the V-rated tires of my turbocharged DSM (the 3rd car I've owned) were $250 apiece and they looked a lot narrower than the Thunder Chicken's*.

I called the Trans Am bird Thunder Chicken even though my friends used Thunder Chicken as slang for the Ford Thunderbird SC (Super Coupe).

Sorry...I assume most people know about tires  I worked in a tire shop for 6 years. I was trying to come up with what you could have had on there. Nothing in the 80's had really big rims (big rims = short sidewall on tire = expensive)

I wish NOW I didn't part with the thing. But, I was young and I was poor. I replaced it with a "new" 1986 Nissan Pulsar NX. Ugh.

The rims looked like they may be 15" or 16". It's hard to remember. The tires had big sidewalls and pretty wide like most 70's V8's. But, yup. I was shocked too at what the car shop wanted for new tires. I remember telling the clerk, "This isn't a Corvette or anything. Why so much?".

Glad you had good luck. But every consumer report I have read, every mechanic I have asked, and all my experience (worked in a shop for 6 years) points towards a different conclusion. From 1990 on, they had SEVERE issues with their electrical (radio, windows, fuses, etc), cooling systems, and other various issues. They made some really great looking cars...but they were garbage as far as reliability. And they were a **** to work on
