I wouldn't say that. Listen to Metallica's Master of Puppets. The songs are catchy, nothing you can do about it. The vocal melodies, even the riffs - you heard it once, you remember it forever. Yet the album simply shines of talent.
There's not a little amount of metal that is also pretty catchy. A lot of Swallow the Sun's Hope album is pretty catchy, but the album is stunning. Same can be said about Opeth and songs like Harvest, Windowpane and more recently Burden.

I don't think catchy is talentless. I think metalheads dislike mainstream music because it isn't as sophisticated, interesting or varied to them as metal and all of its subgenres.

I think that's an awfully wide statement to make. In my opinion, if a band has made catchy music they've got themselves a pop song, and not all pop is bad. Look at the Beatles, they have catchy songs, and I think lots of people would agree with me on the fact they are one of the most influential bands ever :)

Ah, then yes, I understand what you're saying. Though I still prefer this kind of stuff to hip hop, electro, techno, dance and all this popstar scheisse.

Saying they ruined your life is a bit harsh I think. I like their music so I listen to it. People seem wrapped up in the politics of music atm, I'm not bothered about whether their lead singer does drugs or what genre they're in. If it's good then I listen to it. I'm having trouble finding more bands like Pendulum, all the other drum and bass in a bit slow for my liking...tofu-lion91

Try listening to www.di.fm's Drum'n'bass channel. It's not exactly like pendulum but it is more "pure" drum'n'bass and very fast.

For me though;

• Progressive metal
• Progressive trance/house
• Acoustic
• DnB
• Hiphop
• Indie/pop rock

Mostly into underground or alternative hip-hop :)

I like the punk rock/pop punk and something of techno, the bands i listen to: Angels & Airwaves, +44 and paramore.

something i've noticed that i find funny is when people say "i listen to everything" i usually get the feeling they're not into Deathgrind, Blick Metal, or Technical Death Metal...dante_123456

I listen to pretty much everything except for the poppy bands, country, and hardcore screamo/metal. Mainstream rap sucks too, but underground stuff is tight. Lupe is about as mainstream as I go because his lyrics are incredible and I can deal with Lil'Wayne for a couple songs but his lyrics usually just suck and mean nothing. Overall my favorite music is rock/alternative.

My favorite bands are The Bravery and Minus the Bear, check those out!!!

I agree. :P A lot of my past favorite bands went downhill IMO due to trying to attract the mainstream.

Its strange...i totally dont get lil wayne. I've heard a few of his songs and i just think they are awful, with him croaking out non-sensical lyrics over (mostly) annoying beats. I do like one of his songs "La La", but besides that i simply do not understand his appeal :|

Mostly House mixed with a bit of Funk,'60s and '70 Lounge & Bossa Nova, Pop, and Electronica.

More or less Fantastic Plastic Machine.

I used to listen to rap and not much else, but now I listen to almost anything.
