1) Who is that?

2) Why does my eye hurt so much?

3) Should I clean my contacts?

It was blown way out of proporsion.  They're treating it like he spent half an hour spewing racist comments made clearly to offend people.  It was three words for heaven's sake.  All he should have to do is apologize, in person, to the girls and then have everyone forget the whole thing.

I think it just turned into a competition for all the media to act the most offended by his statements, and his boss won for firing him. He didnt desrve it imo

I feel it was too harsh, but there's nothing I can do about it, I'm sure he will make enough money off the publicity though that it won't be the end of the world for him

He shouldn't have been fired. This whole thing shouldn't have been made an issue to begin with.

Don Imus is the victim of double standards and racist agitators.

"A few searches on a popular song lyrics website reveal that the phrase "nappy head hoes" turns up in 14 rap songs. The more vulgar "nappy head b****" is found in 25 rap songs. And the expression "nappy head" appears in 51 rap songs. The rappers are responsible for making the term "nappy head" synonymous with "Black" not Don Imus."

"The producer McGuirk upped the ante by calling the Rutgers' team "hoes" and Imus went along with McGuirk's impromptu Ebonics by throwing in a phrase (nappy head) from various popular rap songs. The term "nappy head" merely means kinky haired, but apparently White men are not allowed to point out the obvious such as the mostly Black make up of the Rutgers team without the likes of Al Sharpton running in front of the media cameras to steal another fifteen minutes of fame. "

Not all rap has those lyrics in it, just the popular commercialized garbage like 50 Cent that gets mass radio play. I like rap, but I listen to a more socially conscious rap, stuff like blackstar, common, the roots, rhymefest. Lyrics focusing more on poverty, love, and society rather than garbage about "Hoes".

Anyway, I'm glad Imus was fired. I DO believe he crossed the line in this case, and he's said some other messed up stuff before in his career. IMO he should've been fired long before this incident. It's about time.

Link to racist remarks from them?

Anyways, I think from the business perspective, it was the only profitable move.

mob mentality at its best....   how many ppl were GENUINELY offended by this?   i dont mean offended when a camera is put in thier face.  or offended when someone asks you because you dont want ppl to think you are racist.  i mean, at your very core, offended by what someone many ppl have never heard of and never listened to said.   probably like 50 people.   but you plop in a.s. to rabble-rouse and this is what you get...    so who's next al?  you finally gonna grow a sack and go after people who are doing far more harm to black people than don imus?

  http://www.bestoftheblogs.com/2007/04/09/al-sharpton-is-a-big-fat-hypocrite/

"Pagones' life was ruined and it took more than a decade for his defamation suit to come to trial. In 1998, a jury finally found Sharpton, Maddox and Mason liable for defaming Steven Pagones and ordered them to pay hefty fines."

http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1527

"Sharpton criticized the Jewish community at Cato's funeral, inflaming ethnic hatreds, and organized more demonstrations that turned once again into open rioting. Sharpton fanned the flames of racial hatred by publicly announcing that it was not merely a car accident that had killed Gavin Cato, but rather "the social accident of apartheid." The contentious activist then challenged local Jews -- whom he derisively characterized as "diamond merchants -- to "pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house" to settle the score."

I don't think that anybody who reads the news really needs links to Jesse "hymietown" Jackson's ethnic slurs.

Rights don't mean anything when one of the biggest media companies is worried about lawsuits. Again: greed.

Oh you can bet Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy and other coloured comedians get away with racism. Most of there acts are actually depending on it or it would last about 3 minutes. The second a Caucasian person makes so much as a hint at a racist remarks, they have to clear there desk.

Assuming Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle and others who use racism are allowed to continue you doing it, there will always be racism.

I personally think that it was blown way, way out of proportion. Watching the video it seems that, if anything, Sid Rosenberg is equally if not more at fault than Imus.

Imus was a shock jock, and most of his "jokes" were never funny, and in bad tastes (I'm not talking about the recent stuff either).  Anyway if you're a shock jock getting fired is almost always a blessing cause you get tons of publicity, and you're next contract is always much bigger (if you're any good).

Also as for the double standard, if you pay attention to these so called "rascist" comedians like dave chapelle, Mencia and eddie murphey you'd notice that they tend to say positive and negative things about different races

Anyways, now they are talking about him suing over the contract, but who knows. I think the African American community is the one's hurting the African American community, not some man that is really all that well known. Al Sharpton, if you wanna go after somebody, look in the mirror.

He said something that was considered offensive on his radio show. He would have had the right to free speech on his side if he was in public or at home... but he was on his radio show, where the parent company has a reputation to uphold. It is his employer's decision and I agree with it.

If people understand that something is offensive then they should refrain from speaking it.

I have new thoughts everyday and think of new ways double-standards are being exaggerated, but I thought of something else today. I was listening to Stephan A. Smith, who works at 1050 ESPN Radio here in NY and also is a columnist in Philly and he had Spike Lee on his show today. Lee has had some really good movies and documentaries in the past (I really liked Do The Right Thing and When The Levees Break, even though the latter one was too long, which is a trademark of his). I have noticed that whenever a black pundit or speaker comes on TV, they seem to defend themselves against criticism by saying something along the lines of "we are not defending or condoning____," whether it be hip hop culture, Imus, whatever. I really wish they would stop using that defense because no one is saying they are. One of the hypocrisies in what Sharpton and Jackson is doing is that they are ONLY going after people who seem to help their agenda. Someone quoted That Wendy woman on Hot 97 here in NY and she says things that are just as bad and you can here things that are even worse on morning radio. I just think it is one of the many double standards and hypocrisy of those two.

I agree in that an employer should have the right to hire and fire whomever they want in accordance with the law, but Imus was fired because of an outrageous double standard that applies only to white people, he broke no laws. There was no outrage, no marches, no boycotts for this racist

Also, if somebody is offended by an opinion that I have, do you think that I should refrain from speaking my mind? I find the very concept of stifling opinions based on other people's reactions a vulgar and offensive idea, but I would never ask that you refrain from speaking your mind.

Yeah, because it's actually a community where they address each and every person.  I mean, Sharpton just left my house after asking me "Hey, should we pursue this further?"
