Your opinion of MTV?

I wish the station would go back to playing music videos, which they did on the Fourth of July (including some good artists like Cake.) What's your opinion?

That they should remove the 'M' in their name.

Both MTV/VH1 are awful.  I think they only play videos in the morning on some days.  Pretty much everything else is "reality" tv crap.  Although their greatest/top 100 lists, pop up video, and their  I love the  80s/90s/00s are interesting

My opinion is that MTV should be removed and the actual chanel be turned into an open access chanel. I was listening to Nirvana the other day and remembered the great days of MTV for a brief moment. Then I woke up.

The minute TRL got canceled, I was done with MTV.

Pre-1996 MTV = COOL

Post-1997 MTV with TRL and growing Internet = GARBAGE

Based upon how I remembered it, the channel started it's gradual decline, after (and this is probably up for debates) Cobain blew is brains out, really, and that's around 1994 and then after music began to change gradually, the internet began to grow. And then Total Request Live came out in 1997 and started showing videos and then cutting them off briefly before even finishing and internet teenie boppers would post "pop up" comments about the videos. To me that's the decline of MTV. 

Video Killed the Radio but the Internet Killed them Both. Not that I even care NOW. I believe there's more promotions and showcasing of up and coming artists now, than there was back then, tbh. 

MTV now, should really be phased out. Because there are now many ways of getting music information more efficiently.

it took bringing back Beavis and Butthead to get me to watch it again. That's how much i hate it. music television? more like money television. 

I despise MTV.

No one should watch MTV, it's such a waste of time.

MTV died the day they debuted The Real World.

From that point on, they switched over to Reality TV and never looked back.

Total Garbage Television.

I am not sure about other countries, but Brazil's MTV is pretty lousy.

The M no longer stands for music, so at least they took that out.

The channel has been garbage for the past few years. I thought they were taking a step in the right direction when they brought Beavis and Butthead back, but it only came back for one more season, iirc.

I miss:

-Headbanger's Ball

-MTV Unplugged

-Rock-U-Mentaries

-MTV Spring Break (with actual music performers)

-Buzz Bin videos

-Video Music Awards with actual bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Metallica, etc...

They used to have music for EVERYONE...now it's all Reality TV garbage and Rhianna/Miley/Gaga/Beiber garbage. Absolutely awful mess. I don't even know what channel # it is on my Cable Box anymore.

The network needs to die.

Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Game of Thrones, Arrested Development, etc. disagree with you.

There's a lot of great TV out there. You just have to know where to look.

I have to admit that Catfish is kinda entertaining.
