[QUOTE="thepwninator"]Can you tell I like classical music?
Ashley_wwe
Never heard of any of that music, but it is good to hear that somebody is in to classical music. I don't think I have ever actually seen anybody mention it like that before, really... do you play an Instrument? I am not in to ****cal music but it sounds hard to play, and it is quite a talent to be able to play that stuff. By the way, I play the Bass Guitar and play a lot of Pop Punk/Punk, Pop Rock etc. if you are wondering.
EDIT: by the way, I can't believe I forgot about Radiohead... I listen to No Surprises, Fake Plastic Trees and Creep every day at the moment...
You've never seen my cIassical music rants? Must be a first. I'm surprised you haven't heard of the works he listed. Surely you've heard parts of Beethoven's 5th and 9th symphonies, and I suspect you've also heard Barber's Adagio for Strings but just don't realize it.
1. Radiohead - Weird Fishes
2. Opeth - Ghost of Perdition
3. Opeth - Burden
4. Radiohead - Subterranean Homesick Aliens
5. Nine Inch Nails - Closer
6. Opeth - To Bid you Farewell
7. Buckethead - Nottingham Lace
8. Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Posses Your Heart
9. Lamb of God - Laid to rest
10. Opeth - MoonLapse Vertigo
Its not very accurate lower down the list.
I play zero instruments. I just love classical, is all...
Probably part of my anti-social behavior-I tend to dislike hearing people's voices in my music-but I still think that, even without that, the pieces above are nothing short of amazing :)

I held a similar opinion until university, where I was introduced to choral music and lieder. All of a sudden, voices in music don't seem so bad anymore. :P
The Grand Conjuration-Opeth
The Drapery Falls-Opeth
Everytime I Die-Children Of Bodom
Silent Night, Bodom Night-Children Of Bodom
Cemetery Gates-Pantera
Cowboys From Hell-Pantera
One-Metallica
Master Of Puppets-Metallica
Raining Blood-Slayer
Angel Of Death-Slayer

That song is epic. When I went to see Opeth last week, they played it as an encore, and it was amazing.
That's awesome. Yeah, when I think of Classical music I just think things like Pianos, Violins and the like. Hearing voices in them would ruin them because they are known (as far as I am concerned, anyway) for their great instrumentals. I am not forcing you or anything, but I think you should learn the Piano or something, if you love Classical music I am sure you would enjoy it. :)

I find it quite interesting that so many people have that interpretation of cIassical music. There is a VAST body of cIassical music that involves voice, and much of the instrumental music is inspired by voice. Chopin, for instance, wrote almost exclusively for solo piano, but he was a fan of opera, and you can hear that vocal-melodic influence very distinctly in his writing. Same goes for just about any major cIassical composer. There isn't a single name I can think of before the 20th century that was not in any way influenced by the most basic instrument - the voice.

I had a similar notion towards opera and chamber music for some odd reason when I started listening to classical music. I don't know why
But needless to say, I love them now a lot :) Especially after figuring out that not all opera is like a Mozartian opera, or the like.

When I look back at my youth, I often find myself wondering why I held the beliefs that I did. I wonder how it is possible that I hated Brahms, and I certainly wonder why I had such a negative attitude towards cIassical music involving the voice. Maybe it's because I didn't enjoy singing in my elementary school choirs. :P

I think Brahms is a tough nut to crack, and it's hard to immediately love him. I'm still getting aquainted with him, but love the 2 piano concerti and the academic festival overture, and the Tragic Overture.
Dmitri Shostakovich is my favorite :P I also like Prokofiev. And Berlioz. Can't forget Berlioz
And we get to play Saint Saens 3 next semester :D
