Abstinence is pretty worthless on all fronts. There's other methods of contraception and it just represses sexual desires. The only thing it does prevent is STDs, but there's other ways of avoiding those as well.

But, see It's not because they can't get laid. It's just views on people that choose to be abstinent. I'm excluding virgins that are trying to get laid.
My cousin is about eight months older than me and knocked up two chicks. one miscarried. He married the one that ended up mascarrying and has to pay child support for the other, now. He's twenty... I also know some one who has hepatitis from unprotected sex... Just be careful people! That's all.
Anyway, if somebody can remain abstinent whilst refraining from succumbing to the peer pressure and societal pressure to have sex, that's an impressive venture.

Not really, otherwise he wouldn't have been such an abysmal businessman and it would be Edison who got shafted.
I don't think abstinence has to be about religion. There's too many people these days spreading dangerous STDs and popping out unwanted kids, I think resisting peer pressure and the media's pressure to have casual sex with lots of people is a very morally responsible thing to do these days.
If you'd like to do it, go for it. If you're doing it only because somebody else says you have to, that's about as stupid as having sex because somebody else tells you to. Your body, your choice.

Abstinence is the only 100% method of birth control. And abstinence isn't necessarily absence of sexual activity, merely sexual intercourse or other activities that could lead to pregnancy (such as frottage).
As someone who can't/doesn't get any, if you CAN get it ... GET IT - don't **** around waiting to get married. Just screw around, literally, and when you meet someone act accordingly.
I don't care if people practice it. Different strokes for different folks. I DO have problems with religious groups wanting to use it for sex ed though. Avoiding the issue doesn't help, at all.
I support it privately, but I'm torn if I wanted my school to teach abstinence only or other birth control methods, but I think schools should have a decision as to what they teach.
I once only advocated abstinence in word alone. These days I advocate it in deed as well. Do I expect people to follow along with the idea easily? Not at all. To willingly become abstinent requires a change in values, passions, and concerns. In fact, I'm willing to be so bold as to say that any other view other than abstinence is selfish in nature. However, I do not expect the general population to jump onto my abstinence bandwagon.
Why would i want a woman who has already proven that she isn't committed to me? :lol: I don't want some uncontrollable animal who gives into their urges. She needs to prove to me that she is committed to me, and only me. Vice versa as well. I don't want my significant other doubting my committment to her.
Now, I personally think the actual marriage ceremony is pointless, but I support the idea of being with only one person in my life. I think two people should be able to decide that they want to spend the rest of their lives together, then thats it. There isn't a need for all of the theatrics like walking down the isle and all that stuff.

Abstinence isn't safe sex, it is the lack thereof. I'm fine with it as a personal choice, and I would respect it if I ever dated someone who wanted to remain abstinent, but schools that preach it as the only effective way to combat pregnancies and STDs can *** off.

It's not even remotely universally accepted. It's okay in my state, but it isn't in most of the US and a lot of developed countries.
