The fact is -- it won't live up the the comic, and that's something that fans are going to have to realize. I think the film will play better for average movie goers. Any Watchmen adaptation was always going to fall under scrutiny. Snyder originally passed on the project, and then took it on in fear of others screwing it up.
I don't think it will be groundbreaking, but maybe a faithful, fun Watchmen movie. It's hard to pass judgment on a trailer with no dialogue. The trailer was tailored to appeal to The Dark Knight audience, as well as movie-going Joe. The Dark Knight trailers were edited more stylized than the actual film, and directors have very little control over trailers.
I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not expecting a haunting Watchmen adaptation -- more like a Watchmen popcorn flick.
