Most likely they will. Didn't they buy the team that developed Portal?

I remember reading somewhere that Valve is indeed supporting the team for this mod, via voice casting ect.

I bet they won't. I guarantee they won't. That's just not the way how things work. I don't believe this MOD even has Valve's official endorsement. And don't compare this with Portal. The concept of Portal was entirely new, it was truly evolutionary for games. That's why Valve wanted in on that. Black Mesa is not at all revolutionary. It just makes an existing 11 year old game look only 5 years old instead.

Well, all of their games apart from the HL games are from other developers which they bought.

Apples and oranges. Any game acquired by Valve has been a new game. Black Mesa is a reimaging of an old game.

I doubt they will. I could see them offering it for download on Steam however.

Unfortunately Team Fortress Classic was a remake of the TF mod for Quake, in addition Team Fortress 2 is built off the same mechanic of TFC.

TF2 was not acquired by Valve. It was made by them. TFC was free if you already owned Half-life. So again, apples and oranges. The original post is speculating Valve acquiring and selling a community mod. A remake of their own classic game, no less.

I doubt it, However I do think that they are going to set some conditions to the team.

Ie "Make sure that people can only play the game if they own the original HL or HL:Source, not just any other source games"

Valve probably would have picked it up already if they were going to. The mod has been in development for a while now; since the end of 2004. It wouldn't make sense to pick it up this late in development. If Valve were going to endorse a game like that they would want to make sure everything was up to standard and kept in with the vision of the original Half-life. Now, they could re-label it to something that indicates it is a mod and not tied in with the original series but as others have said, the actual game doesn't really distinguish itself as something new and unique- it is basically a remake of Half-life in the Source engine. I am fairly certain they will host it on steam though.

To get into specifics, TF2 and TFC are still branded by Valve and to support the TC statement Valve has a history of adapting projects developed by mod teams; while not selling the Black Mesa Mod I do remember reading Valve supporting the team.

If support means that they will not sue for copyright infringement, then yes, they support BM:S. But support does not equal endorsement. They may have a passing interest in seeing their most successful game of all time made with a fresh coat of paint. Surely there is not much more to it than curiosity.

Appropriately there can be revenue from Black Mesa for such anticipation obligatory for success.

The did say at one point that the mod would be ABSOLUTELY FREE.

Well, we'll see just how badly they sell out =)

Free or not, I hope it's gonna be awesome. Been following this mod for a while, it's gonna be so much better than that lame Half-Life:Source mess.
