Okay, so for the last two years I've been using a 720p LCD tv as my monitor. It worked fine and I was fairly happy with it but wanted to changed for a newer nicer monitor. I bought a Samsung BX2350 1080p 23" monitor. It's very crisp, the colours are all fine and nothing wrong with how I've set it up. This is where my question comes in. Everything is much smaller, text, movies, pictures, everything. I assume this is because of the 1080p resolution but the text is so much smaller that it causes a lot of strain to read and headache after about 30 minutes. On my LCD I never had this problem, youtube videos were of a nice decent size, text was very readable but not too big but on this new monitor, youtube videos seem unsatifactory in size and text is incredibly harder to see due to the size. I find myself leaning in to focus in on certain parts just to be able to focus on it better. (My eye sight is fine before anybody comments on that. )# Any replies are greatful as I need to decide whether to send it back very soon! Thanks.

In Windows XP, Vista, and 7 theres an option to increase text size. This also increases things like icons and automatically zooms in on webpages.

With all versions it should be Start -> Control Panel. Don't remember how to get to it on XP but with Vista and 7 the next step would be "Appearance and Customization."

Odd. When I go to Appearance and Customization, theres a display tab with "Make text items smaller or larger," and it does exactly as it says.

Maybe you just need to spend more time with it, since you aren't used to using it. You can ctrl + mouse wheel to zoom in on web pages and stuff though to make them larger.

That is a downside to small monitors with high resolution. I remember a few years back I got an uber premium Thinkpad with a very high resolution on a 15" screen. Scaling made it look awful and the Windows settings didn't help a lot. So I did what any other self respecting IT user would do, swapped it out for a standard resolution one and passed mine along as a super computer to another user "who needed the best." :-)

In Windows 7:

  • Right-click on the desktop
  • Click"Personalize"
  • At the bottom-left click, "Display"
  • You should now be able to select "Small/Medium/Large"

Turning on "ClearType" may also improve readability. I hope this helps!

Which browser are you using?

Chrome: Options>Under the hood>Web content>Font Size

Firefox: Options>Content Tab>Fonts & Colors

IE: Tools>Zoom

Get some glasses or zoom in using your mouse.

I got a 24" 1200P, and I love mine.

Getting glasses just to see my screen properly seems like a very poor solution.

How is it poor?

You can't see, so you get glasses...

If you want a poor solution, the go get laser eye-corrective surgery.

Or he could adjust settings like turning down the brightness and using a calibration tool so it isn't so harsh on his eyes.

Or return it for a better monitor like LG or Dell.

I think his problem are the small text in his internet browser.

You dont need a glasses for that when you can just adjust the font size or zoom in.

look for an option to change ur DPI value in the control planel.

also, holding ctrl and scrolling easily zooms web browers in and out.

and if ur montior and video card are not both HDCP compatible everythign will look like crap.

GTR12 QUOTE: "How is it poor? You can't see, so you get glasses... If you want a poor solution, the go get laser eye-corrective surgery." Moronic comment. I said in my first post my eye sight is perfectly fine, therefore I do not need glasses or eye correction. The problem was not that I can't see but that the text was too small, none of my friends found it comfortable either. Think before you post.

And its moronic how? there are many people with 1080P monitors and they can see fine, if people can't see something, they get glasses or they use the accessibility options in Windows (its there for a reason you know).

I have no problem, but my dad does, so I told him the same thing, and you know what his solution was, use the screen magnifieror his glasses, he doesn't care and neither does anyone else.

If you still want to bring up the same point to the manufacturer, they will state the same thing.

It's not moronic at all. I have no idea why the TC started throwing insults at you =\

It's a moronic comment when the fault is not with your own eyes. It turns out the monitor was faulty, so getting glasses was not a solution to someone who has prefectly good eye sight.
