Searching for a new tv. The screen size is 42" but the 1080p price is about 250 dollars more than the 720P, does the difference in the picture justify the extra money spent? Thanks.

No. I have a 50" 720p Plasma, and I think the picture looks a ton better than my friends 60'' 1080P tv. I know those are two different sizes, but that is all I have to compare. I can't even imagine my picture looking even better, as it is crystal clear at 720P, and since you're looking at getting a smaller TV, the quality will look just as good or even better (depending on the brand of the TV how well it was actually made).

Well in my eyes, for only $250 i'd go for it. but Some say you can't really tell the difference on a 42". I have a 1080P 42" lcd nad it's great. i've never played a 1080p game on it, so i can't compare gaming, but the bluray is phenominal.

The difference between 720p and 1080p is harder to see in live action than it is in games. In games the difference between 720p and 1080p is pretty easy to see (mostly because aliasing is much more noticable at 720p and it's easier to see distant objects become pixelated). I have a 1080p 42" LCD in my house and I think it looks great. 1080p is worth it in my opinion.

Most ps3 games run in 720p so dont waste your money. If you are going to watch blu ray on full hd 50" plasma you will feel the difference. On LCD you cant tell where 720p or 1080p.

i would say for the small sum of $250, go for it. at the very least you wont be sorry when more 1080p games come out this generation or next.

i would say spend the 250 only if the colour contrast ratio is above 10,000:1 otherwise its a complete waste of the money and u can tell the diff.

try samsung 42" F8

The actual Display matters more than a resolution. E.g. contrast, color accuracy, also the source is very important (get a Ps3 for bluray).

yea, especiually since ps3 is getting an update that'll suport DTS-MA HD audio.

picture quality has a lot to do with the quality of the video processor, sony is know for making tvs with a good picture and there are tvs coming out in a couple months that have silicon optix video processors in them. Seeing as how you want to save 250$ i wouldnt assume you'd be willing to shell out more $$ for a better picture. I've seen a 32" sony 720p that's under 1000$, if that's affordable.

there's more to a tv than it's conatrast ratio, most of the time those number's arent even accurate anyways. But yea, I'd say go for 1080 if you'l lbe wathing blu-rays and playing games.

Worth it, even for the reason of future-proofing yourself. Eventually they'll use 1080p a bit more.Canvas_Of_Flesh

Alrite here's my final dilemma:

I could go for a 42" 720P (3 HDMI) LG Plasma HDTV and use the extra leftover cash to buy a deceant surround sound, or use all my budget and get a Philips 1080P (2 HDMI) 42" LCD. Any suggestons?

IMO yes use the extra cash on a good 1080P tv, and get the surround later on when you have the money for it.

As for the question if it's worth it - as far as i'm told if your getting a 32" and below dont bother about 1080P, but at 40"+ it's good, and with the 1080P tv your set for the future ;)
