Well, I'm building a custom made PC and I don't know what to choose.

I have an option of buying 1x Sapphire HD6970 2GB...or 2x Sapphire HD 6870 with 1 GB each.

So, what do you guys think...should I go with 2 older ones or 1 newer.

Note that 2 older ones are going with Intel i5 2500K and 1 newer is going with AMD Phenom II 1055T.

Well, I would really like that too because if you don't have the Graphics Card to support the CPU you wasted your money. But, if it is better to get i5+6970 I could wait some more time to get the cash. Which gave me an idea; I recently changed the fan (older one was too load). So, if I can use the fan from the current PC I could have more money for the 6970.

Well thank you for the opinion. And as I am going through the specs of each I am getting the same idea too.

Sell the older one and get an even better card? 1055 CPU is more then enough for gaming.

It's not really an opinion if it's a fact:P

It's a technical fact. AMD is infamous with it's horrible driver and CFX profile support.

I'm aware.. There's a reason why I'm not running Crossfire on my motherboad that supports it. A pair of 6850's would be a bit faster than my current GPU i many games, but I'd have to deal with crossfire. I've had 3 SLI combinations in the past. They worked well, but not as well as a single fast card.

Do you consider sponsoring me since I need more money for 3x 6870. I only have the money for 2 with the current set up.

My old card is 6 years old. My whole computer is 6 years old. I couldn't even sell it for cheap.

Get the best single gpu you can afford so you have room to upgrade. Plus some games don't even work with crossfire. Another tip. Try to go nvidia if you're using win 7 64x since ati drivers are a bit finicky with stuff like forcing vsync.

That's BS. I had the 6870 CFX setup, and it was a beast with no issues whatsoever. CFX drivers are better than SLI.

SLI in the past is not even as good as it is now, it's improved since.

Single-card drivers are better than CFX or SLI. That was the point.

On that I agree.
