I'm stuck and I need to choose a graphics card. My two choices are the EVGA 8800GT for $204 or a 512mb HD 3850 with a good cooler for $199. I play games at 1024 or 1280 and was wondering if the 256mb will limit me in COD4 , Cryis , Orange Box, World in Conflict, etc.

Thanks in advance.

If i were you, i would buy the HD 3870 512 MB not 3850. 3870 HD only cost 20-30 more dollars and is 10x faster than the 8800GT.

LOL is right. 8800gt 256mb still owns the 3870 512mb.. Only when resolutions get real high the 8800gt 256mb falls a lil behind because of its lack of RAM. 8800gt ftw. 3870 if you play in huge resolutions

Crysis loves Vram even @ 1280x1024, the 256mb 8800gt is pretty grimped, I would say get the HD 3850 512 and OC it, now isn't the time to cut back on Vram anymore.

Personally,i'd get the 512MB HD 3850,though 8800GT 256MB isn't a bad choice either.

Now hold on, why would you get the 8800gt 256 when the 512 3850 beats it in EVERY becnhmark? Another thing to, the 8800gt cant handle AA at all (this si the 256 version). The 256 is a scam DONT GET IT.

Nope. If he is only playing in 1280x1024, the 8800GT is significantly faster than the HD3850, and sometimes faster than the HD3870. In that resolution, the 8800GT would only be limited in like 8xAA and 16xAF, but the HD3850 would take a performance hit from that much AA as well.

Hmmm wait that review does not disprove what i said. They are obviously not playing crysis in high settings cuz the GT gets 31fps in 19x12 so obviously it's medium settings or something.I still stand by my bet it seems.:P

I bet that the 512MB 3850 beats 256MB GT in crysis in high settings in 12x10 with no filters.

it doesnt

Prove it then.

Ya i knew that just from seeing the difference between the 320MB and 640MB GTS in crysis in high settings. The TC should take note and not buy the 8800 with 256MB.

The thing is in games where the GT is ahead most probably the 3850 would do a sufficient job but in situations like this the GT will crumble. It also loses in world in conflict which is proof enough that the 3850 will be better for the more demanding games thus more future proof.
