For reference the peak amount for portal 2 on the first few release days was around 100k, Deus Ex was 60k, Dead Island was 30k, Rage was around 20k.ferret-gamerAlso for reference, Portal 2 sold most copies on PC, so I guess Skyrims sales on PC are not bad at all.

[QUOTE="biggest_loser"] Your point? If it didn't include those things you'd put them in using mods anyway.
I'm glad people are enjoying the game.
But I'm going to hold off. I just need to know how buggy it is etc.biggest_loser
Just pointing out how important and influential mods can be even if some devs deny it (especially denying after having already copied)
Where did they say that and why would they put modding tools in the game? Can't remember since I read as well as watch dozen of interviews with Todd talking about Skyrim. It was one where he was answering email questions and that topic came up. He said to the effect that they have enough talent in house and enough ideas that they don't need to use anything from the Oblivion modders.
Edit: Not to confuse people, Skyrim will have mod support. I'm talking about Bethesda's dev team copying community made mods that were in Oblivion and using them in Skyrim. While saying all those ideas were developed in house by Bethesda or at least to that effect.
does this game include any desert like areas (you know like gothic 3) or is it based solely on the northern areas ?malikmmmFrom what ive played (10 hours) its all northern. A lot of grass and trees, with mountains and a lot of water/glaciers in the North.

As a prospective purchaser, has Skyrim eliminated some of the larger criticisms leveled against Oblivion? These include:
1. Combat system
2. Enemies leveling with the character (Highwaymen in full daedric)
3. Stealth
4. Being able to level your character in every skill, allowing you to join every guild. (Morrowind prevented this or made it extremely difficult)
5. Things to do besides questing, killing monsters, or what have you. (minor point)
Thanks in advance.

I can talk about some of the points:
-- The combat feels more visceral and smoother compared to Oblivion. Third-person is actually a viable way of playing the game (imo), and can actually be useful in combat against multiple opponents. Finishing moves are fun but sometimes they're out of sync.
-- Haven't been observing the level scaling too closely. It might be possible that some bandits had their iron armour and weapon sets switched with steel ones during my playtime, but not too sure about that. I didn't really have any problem with the level scaling in Fallout 3, so I don't think I will in Skyrim. That said, you will encounter some really difficult creatures to kill early on which aren't appropriate for your level, like giants, mammoths, sabres, etc., though most won't attack you first.
-- What about the stealth? I guess it's pretty similar to other recent Bethesda games.
-- Well, there's no definitive level cap, so maxing out eventually is most likely possible. Dunno about the guilds.
-- There are some things, like cooking (which isn't skill-based, you just need ingredients), crafting, wood chopping, mining, and supposedly farming. You can listen to music at inns and tell the singer what to play, give alcohol to NPC's etc.; little interactions that make 'taking a break' worthwhile. Also worth mentioning that there are a lot of crafting benches to use (for creating different items): tanning rack, forge, grindstone, workbench, etc.
Aside from that, it's actually a game surprised me with its reactivity at times. If I'm wearing imperial armour people will remark on that in a respectful manner (usually). Or when I'm sick, characters will inform me about it and the healer will offer to treat me. Also a lot of dialogue about your race that amounts to more than 'Hey, you're a Nord!' or 'Hey, you're a Khajiit!'
A shame I won't be able to get the game due to bad internet in my area, all the plans are so terrible that they'd make steam more of a burden for me so I have no choice but to avoid steam games like skyrim ......J_P-?? You don't need a stable internet connection to play Skyrim. It's not an online game. If you can post this on the forum, you could definitely play Skyrim aswell :) Btw, we have 248, 711 people playing noW! Climbing fast.. were will it end?

Some are fetch but others have a certain...twist to them. Like one where a kid summons a member of the dark brotherhood but you end up coming instead. You see bones and body parts in front of him, it turns out his mother was killed and he was sent to an orphanage. He says he ran away because he hated the person who ran the orphanage, and he summoned a dark brotherhood member (he thinks you;re an assassin) to kill her. So basically the quest is to kill an orphanage keeper, but the story behind it is awesome.
why is everyone acting funny, The game is a steamworks title right so............................what were you expecting?
[QUOTE="omenodebander"]So is TF2. That game barely managed to push 100k when it went free to play. A graph to visualize Skyrim vs other big name releases this year on steam:http://steamgraph.burstpixel.net/index.php?action=graph&appid=620q34330q42690q72850q28050q91310q9200&from=0

Elder Scrolls titles have always been massive due to having a very generic/mainstream RPG experience possible(which is not a bad thing it just means you can gift it to friends without them hating it even if they're not hardcore gamers) while also being relatively polished and offering ridiculous amounts of content, these are the sort of games where if you're fine with the gameplay, it could keep you busy for years(I have a friend who has over 3100 hours logged on ES4). Also if I'm not mistaken, wasn't Morrowind the second biggest title on the original Xbox, neck and neck with Halo 2?
