Would you buy an used GFX card? I have a chance of one a 8800 GTS Overclocked at my local store and it looks ok, Its pretty cheap but I wonder how long it may last! it is £40 or $63 to my American chums.

Yeah there's generally nothing wrong with buying used hardware, especially not if you're buying from a store.

You'll get it cheaper on ebay, I gottwo 8800gts cards for £23 then sold them for £33 each, you won't get any for that price, I just got lucky but I wouldn't pay much more than £30 :-D

Don't go for second handed GPUs. It isn't worth paying money on even though it may come dirt cheap.

Almost 8 out of 10 used cards go to hell after days of working but feel free to take the risk. You might be from the lucky part.

yah my 6950 2gb radeon is actually 2nd hand. It works like new and it still has full warranty on it as well. Don't buy any used products from the store, get it from craigslist or some other local ads. You will save a nice chunk on taxes.

Yeah, I think gpus are one of the best things to buy used, just know who you are buying it from. Alot of people that are into benchmarking buy a lot of gpus and use thine for a week or 2 and then sell them.

I bought my gtx 580 for $375 back in Feb. used when they were still $550 new.

I wouldn't be scared of a used GPU. I've purchased 3 or 4 used cards and all but one worked perfectly. I got a refund on the one that didn't. My current backup GPU is a used 9800gt that I've tested extensively. Works like a charm.

i bought a hd 5770 & a hd 5750 both used. The 5770 is payed 65$, the 5750 45$. I put them in crossfire which give the power of a hd 5870. My graphics are top notch for a 110$ I wouldn't buy a complete used system, but graphics cards are easy to test and a lot of people sell their graphics card because they want a stronger one. So yes buy a used one, you will save yourself a lot of money

i'd never do that.. if for no other reason, if a video card is being sold second hand, it's probably already too old for me to buy. I don't usually go for the very top of the line stuff, but for video cards, i try to buy at least the mid-range of the latest line.. since they get outdated so fast, i really don't need to give it a head start to becoming obsolete by buying and older card to be begin with.

8800 gts is a bit old but can still do some gaming, though I wouldn't spend more than $30 for it. Try to find a radeon 5670 or 6670 second hand. Those cards have dx 11 and are a bit more powerful than the 8800 gts. If you can't find that then the 8800 gts is a good card still.

The 8800 gts is still a good card for gaming, . It's a good card in the low end market (it's way better than hd 5450 for instance). If you don't have any money and you have this card well praise yourself lucky then.

However if you like gaming a lot and you have some cash to spare, you're missing out. A hd 5770 for example you should be able to get for around 80 pounds and on 720p this card will almost outmax everything.

If you can't spend more i would still look for a hd 5670 then because this card is newer, uses less power and has dx11. I think it will be 50-60 pounds though.

Or even better buy a used hd 5770 like i did
