The Dell Inspirion 531 is priced just right, but this 300 watt power supply has me worried. Will it be enough?

Same, I bought a 531 in december with the 2600XT GDDR4, and it runs stable on the 300W PSU.

you have the dell already? if you don't you are giving dell $100s just to build your system, you should build your own if you want a gaming system. but 300w should run the 8600s as they don't need much power

He has a 300W PSU that can do 23 amps which is higher than the min requirement of 22 amps. The Watts aren't everything you have to look at the ampage. They are 400 Watt power supplies that do less than 22 amps out there. I have a 305W PSU that can do 22 amps and it runs the XFX 8600GT fine. Also, Dell power supplies tend to be able to do 22 amps as with Gateway. McMurmur, you should be fine.

That's even better, right? Then the 8600GT must want 18amps?

Not to mention, they over-estimate requirements anyway.. it should be fine
