I'm currently playing my 360 on a standard tv but I have a 17"crt monitor (viewsonic E70fb). I was thinking about getting the VGA cable but my concern is the monitor resolution. The max res. is 1280x1024 but the native or recommended resolution is 1024x768.

If I got the VGA cable would it look bad at the max? Anyone playing on a crt?

I don't know about the max res, but 1024x768 should still look better than your tv.

im guess the picture will probably be off the screen by a tad bit or possibly will be scaled down to fit the screen, i got my 360 to my monitor too (viewsonic va1912wb) and when i go over my resolution limit in the settings the picture is extended off the screen

I bought the VGA cable and it works fine with my crt. Resolution is set to 1280x1024 and the text is sharp. Just hate that some games give me those damn black bars.....lol. But they will go away once I upgrade to a widescreen LCD.

Does your image extend off the screen even when you use the front panel geometry adjustments on your monitor?

To the OP: Yes you can run at your max resolution of 1280x1024. CRTs do not have a native resolution, but their recommended resolution is the res usually one step under the max. It's a resoution that has a good balance between screen size and refresh rate (although I don't know that the latter is adjustable on a 360).
