How's it going, this computer will be used for streaming and gaming, if I go with the 7700 I could get a 1080 card but with the 6800 it will be a 1070. Any idea what would be better, I'm worried that the 7700k will give me a poor quality stream. Thanks a lot.

Well since the difference between the kabylake and Broadwell performance per clock is minor... having the extra 2 cores and 4 threads should make a difference with multitasking and gaming/streaming if you allocate core usage to specific tasks. If you can wait a month or two, AMD's new Ryzen cpus will be out and hopefully shake intel enough to lower prices and re-gear to move beyond the artificial premium design costs and limits put in place. If the rumored/leaked prices are true and the performance bracket of the Ryzen cpus you could pick up a 8c/16t cpu for $350.

Sadly I don't have the option of waiting, my laptop is done. Thanks I will probably just go with the 6800, I think the 1070 will be enough for gaming in 1080 p.

@zepfya: the 1070 indeed will be more than enough for gaming at 1080p. In fact many people even go as far as to say that it is a bit overkill. As for the cpu, well the difference between skylake aka the 6800 and kaby lake is very small, so skylake ought to do you well.

It would be nice to see some innovation from Intel when it comes to cpus but no dice. Hoping that Ryzen will shake them up pretty good.

@zepfya: 1070 is suited for 1440p for the next 2 years so for 1080p is about 4-5 years of max settings.

If AMD releases a monster of a cpu for under $400 intel is going to have to cut prices and rethink the X99 and 11** socket platforms.

@zepfya: the 1070 is pretty much the same level with 1080. Unless u crazy for 4k there is no reason to get 1080

@Commiesdie: @PredatorRules:

The GTX 1080 is the card that makes the most sense for 1440p. The 1070 will struggle some on more demanding games and you will have to turn down settings to maintain 60fps+. The GTX 1080 is not good enough for 4K and even the Titan XP struggles as well.

The Division, The Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider. I had a 980 Ti which is comparable to the 1070 and it struggled to maintain 60fps on more demanding games at 1440p. That is why I upgraded to a 1080.

@BassMan: That amount of more demanding games are equal in those that use all threads, in general for most games on 1440p - GTX1070 will be strong.

There will be always that Crysis game that will demand more than 90% of the games, not many gamers buy GPUs based on surprise demand games - those people usually buy top notch GPU such as GTX1080, 1080Ti, Titan or even SLI of those cards.

You don't upgrade cpu often, but you will always upgrade gpu if you want to keep up with graphics. Buy the better cpu and 1070, sell it and trade up to a better card in 2 years or whenever you need it.

@Bikouchu35: this is true. but if you skimp on a CPU then your looking at a big fps loss
