Hi guys, I've had my reference 7970 for almost a week now and I've recently noticed a strange problem.

Every now and then the card fails to clock down to 2D mode, here is an example -

[/spoiler]

At the desktop the Core Clock stays at 500Mhz, the Memory Clock stays at 1535 (load clock) and the card idles at over 60C.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening, or has anyone experienced this?

I've just loaded DayZ, and I'm getting 10fps - my core and memory clocks are now not moving from idle:lol:

I think my drivers have exploded.

Uninstall your drivers and try all the different ones that support the 7970 starting with the newest first.

Yeah I reinstalled the 12.7 drivers and everything works fine now.

It's done this several times now and I have no idea why...

Postmortem123

DayZ is beyond terribly optimized.

I run it on high and get 15-25 fps. I run it on the lowest possble settings and resolution and I still get 15-25 frames.

Ugh, that's pretty horrible.

What CPU you got?

AMD X2 6000+.

but my friend runs it on an i5 2500k and gets the same. some update last night gave us both like 5 more fps.

If you read online some people with amazing setups have horrible frames.

ARMA 2 itself is poorly optimized but I run it fine on high.
