Thats a fairly old review,but it proves that the 8500GT is a POS,8600GT is the absolute minimum you want for todays games.

aaron its good card it doesnt get hot uses low power, meaning it can be OC'ed very good, heck it gets better results on 3dmark than a 7900GS so go with that card, just make sure its the DDR3 version.

Yes the 8500GT can run games like LOTRO online at high settingsand FEAR, Full Spectrum Warrior, WoW,AND HF2 ect. I play the damn quake wars beta on 800by600 with every setting on high, AA on, and even my lighting is on ULTRA! and I DO NOT get bad FPS at all, although I cant do the same in bf2 as well. I can boldy say that the 8500GT is a decent mid range card. ITS NOT THE BEST but people down this card way too much. For the price its at now its worth it for the average gamer. I dont know how I can prove it two you except that when I use Fraps I getaround 60FPS orabove when playing my games. No one is telling anybody to buy the card so I dont know whats all the drama about. Bottom line is that its not a gaming monster butcan playmost of the latest PC games rather well withdecnt Graphics. Thats all! 8500=mid range card end of dicussion.

Hey man If I was smarter and knew that I could run the 8600GT i really would have gottten that instead without a dought. But I was really scared that my PSU couldnt handle it so I picked the 8500GT. I really wish I could get the 8600GT but I dont want to make the money I spent on the 8500GT go down the drain, so Im going to stay with it for now.Marine152

Feel bad for you Marine because 8600gt runs perfect on stock PSU, thats the reason I always buy a EVGA brand so I got those 90 days to change my mind I can always upgrade it.

The 8800GTS wins hands down. Better value, because you get a lot lot more performance for your buck, even though it costs more. And Power consumption? IMO you shouldn't be getting a weak power supply to begin with, especially with 19amps. There are great PSUs with 36 amp on 12v for like $60 bucks that run 8800GTS perfectly fine. So no you don't need a high end psu.WhiteSnake5000

At first they were ripoff's since there price's was $150 for the GT,$200 for the GTS,now there price's drop down so they're a better value now than when they was on launch day.

8600 is magical card for n00bs. IMO. Why buy a damn 8600GT when you can get a X1950pro for 20 bucks more... lol I never understood it. OH MY GOD TEH DX10s... so far not one DX10 card has done very well in DX10, plus it will be years before DX10 is even... accepted into the mainstream, and by then what's the chance of the 8600GT keeping up? Slim. So it's better to get a card with more power than some medium end card with a very young technology like DX10. Or how about the X1950XT over the 8600GTS.

People who are buying the 8600s over the X1950 series are missing out.

If SupCom wasn't included with that Gigabyte 8600GT,it would probably be like around $100,so it would be at least $35 cheaper than a X1950Pro,who would get a X1950Pro over a 8600GT with a GAME and a sexay cooler? and the 8600GT can get high settings in SupCom @ 1280x1024,it comes very close to the 7900GS in that game,and once you OC the card,you could get performance close to the X1950Pro for a bit less while still getting a game!
