GS: What sort of hardware was the E3 demo running on? How's the battle to optimize the game going? Are you still sticking with the general rule that Crysis will run on two-year old hardware, albeit at lower visual settings?

CY: At E3, we were running on a [GeForce] 8800 video card and a dual-core Intel [CPU]with 4 gigabytes of RAM at very high settings. Not the highest, though! Most of the time, it was running smoothly.

pminooei

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/crysis/news.html?sid=6175656

it doesn't say what resolution they were playing at or what type of 8800 but it says 4GB of ram not 2GB also it wasn't set at the highest setting as well. also see how he says the frame was running smoothly "MOST OF THE TIME"!!!!. but it's using dual core or those with quade core are okay lol.

man i spend money on getting 8800GTX :P lol

For gods sake will it help you sleep at night if your settings say "max" instead of "very high", when you probably will barely notice a difference in image quality.

I doubt there would be much of a performance difference between 2 and 4 gigs.

This guy is talking sense. anways Gfx prices drop so often, by the time official stuff about crysis, relaeased from crytek, newer gfx card may be cheaper,so we can buy them and need'nt worry!! (OPTMISTIC BUT WHO CARES)

thats not a good thing, thats even worse news for u lol. since crysis is workign with nvidia NOT ati so it'll run better on nvidia cards. also 2900XT is worse than 8800GTX :P so not better optimised and weaker will make it bad news for u.

Wasn't there an article that said that no computer will max Crysis for at least 18 months? In any case, I'll be fine if I wind up running the game at 1024x768 with no AA or AF, but with every other setting maxed(shaders, shadows, lighting, textures, etc.), all running at a constant 60 FPS(or never dipping below 30 FPS). If I have to make even more compromises, so be it; at least I won't have to give up the massive environments, sheer destructibility of that environment, component vehicle damage, nanosuit modes, and customizable weapons that make up the real meat of Crysis.

2900xt is more built for dx10 then 8800 series, with all the stream proccesors and stuff.

im sure if i was going to debut my game for an entire day straight on a PC, i would do whatever i could to make it run smooth and look good ALL DAY. what's 4 gigs to a company like crytek? the person who got that computer was probably like, "heh, why not?"

be honest, no matter how good your computer is, if you're playing the top of the line graphically demanding games for a day, you will see some skippage after a few hours.

the extra ram and lower settings are precautions as far as im concerned

A) After 4x AA jaggies are not noticiable on any respectable resolution. At 2560x1600 no AA is required period.

B) The game is not fully optimized and not done. Concentrated optimiziation is one of the last steps before bug squashing.

C) Games have settings that kill performance and show no discernable impact in quality (I'm looking at you: soft shadows in F.E.A.R.) The particle count from Far Cry itself was one of these settings, and to this day can drop performance up to 50% when changing from medium to highest!

D) Likely Direct X 10 mode so those of you worrying about performance will prolly be using a DX9 card in XP anyways.

E) Considering how friggin bleeding edge the game is, the fact that it can almost be maxed out with that hardware at this stage in development is one hell of an acheivement.

Did anyone actually bothered to read the quote or theyjust decided to go with the bandwagon like yesterdays randomG92 post?

NO WERE in the quote did it said that with a 8800 they weren't a able to get Crysis on "very high", they simply said a) were are using a 8800 card b) is not on the fullest c) the game is running smoothly most of the time(this one can be attributed to so many things)

PERIOD

What's going to surprise people is that the gameplay in Crysis will be so great that they won't even be concerned with the graphics :P

All of this arguing is for nothing :P

Guys, 8800 GTS/GTX will max out crysis, and you pretty much need a decent intel 2 duo. 2 Gigs RAM

No need to get scared, lads!

If Crysis needs greater specs than these...Ill eat my P/C

My only concern is the performance gap between DX10 and DX9. If what they say is true, then DX10 should run just as good, if not better than DX9 (for some reason I doubt that, but we shall see).

Depends how well optimized it is. Crytek games seem to be pretty well made and they will obviously be spending a lot of time getting it running well because they know how good the game looks. They have been making this game for 3 years now.

OH NO! You Can't run your precious 16x AA & AF!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?

seriously, not to rain on anyones parade here, my 8800 gts can't MAX out supreme commander which happens to be out today, so games in the future will be more technically demanding. Personally I can't notice a difference between 4x and 16x AA, and as a matter of fact I don't even ever use AA, i think it's a waste of resources. I can almost assure you any 8800 series card will max Crysis w/o AA or AF and unless you're really into godly computers, that will be good enough to realize the true awesome factor crysis is going to have.

I'm sure the GTS will have no problem maxing Crysis with AA and AF, but certainly not 16X AA, that's just ridiculous. 4X AA is fine, especially when running at a higher resolution.

the 64-bit version "will bring a performance difference of up to 10 to 15 percent on each thread" compared to the 32-bit versionCevat Yerli

Will definitely be happy to see a 10-15% performance bonus with 64-bit then! :D link

I'm not too worried about it with my 8800GTS, wait for the optimizations and final product guys. He was very vague, he might only be talking about one or two areas in the game that are not as far along in development/optimizations yet, who knows...

the geforce 9 series can do it without breaking a sweat.
