I placed an order on Best Buy's website on the 22 of last month for a BFG 8800 GTS 640 mg videocard. It was onsale for $316 which is darn cheap. However, the card is on backorder and they still haven't shipped it yet. They recently sent me an email saying that they might have to cancel the order soon. Right now I have an LG 19" monitor with a 1440 x 900 resolution. Do you think that I should just cancel the order and go withthe 320 megabyte version of the same card for a cheaper price of $300? The real differencebetween the two is the ram which is really there only for the higher resolutions that my card can't support. It kind of sucks either way. What would you do?

if you're getting the 640 mb for that cheap, stick with it. (I can't believe its that cheap at best buy). even thoughit might not make much of a difference at that res. 16 bucks is nothin.

Well, the extra VRAM is used for many things, such as holding textures, but more is not always better. The cards are identical in all matters other than the VRAM.

The 320MB version was rated as a better buy for the buck. If you can get a 640MB for only $316, it would not be a bad idea. However, if your order does get canceled, I would highly suggest grabbing an EVGA 8800GTS 320MB off newegg.com. EVGA is a sister company of intel, and they produce far better quality products. BFG is not known for their quality, however they have a deal with bestbuy, I work there, so bestbuy only really carries them.

I would highly recommend getting one of these instead. As of right now, both have mail-in rebates as well, so they are a bit cheaper. EVGA products are also built for overclocking, if you're into that stuff.

EVGA 8800GTS 320MB ($279.99): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082

stick it out all the way! i think making THEM cancel it and look bad for you is worth $16. plus, companies who are forced to not give you what you asked for usually make reparations
