I preffer Nvidia but i wont go and buy card from nvidia that is worst for the same pricethanATicard, even if its from nvidia. domke13
I always go by what I prefer, I am more use to using Nvidia cards, so I always stick to them no matter what. I have had bad experiances with ATI cards (Not saying they are bad, I was just unlucky I guess) and I am not going back there.
y do we consider POWER REQUIREMENT such a big deal ???
Do u see power needs and compare diff brands before buying anew fridge ? or buying a new TV do u ever loook at power consumption?? NOO.....
so y in this case. It will probably increase your electricity bill to a lessss extent but theze things usually go unnoticed when paying up these bills .
Whoo knows... People using 8800gtx might be payin more electricity bills just becoz thier moniter in sukingg too much power..
To the people saying the HD2900XT is comparable to the 8800GTX, it isn't. It's not even close in all but one game. I had to go with the 8800GTS due to price, and also because it uses a lot less power.Manly-manly-manit's not now, but we are talking in the future.
Anyway, I already bought it, so hopefully my gamble works in the long run
[QUOTE="domke13"]Agreed whit both posters. Especialy whit Lahiru. That technology will indeed be used in 2-3 years from now. 2900XT has tesselation. Hm. Ask ANYONE which game that has been anounced on PC for 2008 will use tesselation. He wont be able to tell you any game taht will use that. Also true DX10 titles will use all features of 2900XT and those titles are at least 2 years away. By then you will have new card. Also 2900XT seems to reach its limit in termso of optimizing drivers. New 7.7 catalys actually doent imrpove performance. They even lower it in some games. On the other hand G80 also has some future proof technologies like quantum effects which should run phyisics. About AA through sahders. For now i think that non of developers will use it. Maybe. But it would be stupid to make game that would be better playable on cards that share much less market (in that case 2900XT) and to run worst on cards that has the by far the biggest DX10 cards market (in that case nvidia). You finally get a chance to go for 8800 GTX and i say go for it.Wesker776
2-3 years? No.
AMD has the superior micro architecture, IMO, and the tesselator is just gravy on top. Furthermore, R600 CAN run physics, because physics can be processed through the shaders (exactly how NVIDIA does it). Although there aren't many DX9 games that take advantage of R600's super scaler architecture, you can count on DX10 to do so.
Also, DEVELOPERS HAVE TO PROCESS (DX10) AA THROUGH THE SHADERS. IT IS NOT AN OPTION, IT IS PART OF MICROSOFT DIRECTX 10 GUIDELINES!!! No more texture units to process AA, just the shaders for DX10!
What most people here are missing is the fact that the 2900 XT is $100 US cheaper than the 2900 XT, yet it can offer comparable performance to the 8800GTX.
It really depend on how much you're willing to spend. My best estimates are that the 2900 XT and 8800 ULTRA (yes ULTRA) will be dead even in DX10 games. The performance could be shaky, but for a solid and well developed game such as Crysi, you can expect some big performance from the 2900. But, as many have said here, if you're going to be pumping 4xAA, 16xAF and maxed out details for DX9, then the 8800GTX will be a smart buy today (maybe not so much in the future though). It just depends on your perspective and wallet's ability to regenerate income.
exactly!! Exactly what I'm thinking!Go for whichever you want. Flip a coin. They should be somehow equal in DX10 games. But i personally will probably wait whit Vista till end of year or even later, cause i wont be missing a thing, since most games will bein DX9 too and wont look so much worst if even any. There shouldnt be huge difference in performance betwen 8800GTX and 2900XT. Just go for ATi if you like red and for Nvidia if you like green. domke13lol, well like I said above 2 posts I already bought the 2900xt. By the way, Green is my favorite color lol. If I went with that, my purchases would be pretty different
lol. OMG you should go for nvidia than. xD. Dont worry. I hope 2900XT serves you well in DX10 games. I am sure my 8800 GTX will in DX9 games. And when DX10 cards will be mature for DX10 i will pick one up. No point in playing DX10 games whit little better image quality and slower performance. And i can also save 200$ on Vista, and get quad core instead.
