I'm thinking of buying either a 9800gtx+ or a 4850, which one is the better card?

And would it be good with my other specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2.3ghz
2GB RAM

With the launch of 40nm GPUs; 1Gb 4870 prices are falling, you might want to shop around and find that a 4870 is not much more than a 9800GTX+ but will give you more performance. If you are in the UK then Aria, Scan, Novatech and Overclock are changing there ATI GPU prices quite frequently.

In most cases. The graphics card market has gotten extremely competetive again so Nvidia and ATI have been working hard to give eachother low blows in pricing. The HD 4850 and the 9800GTX+/GTS 250 are neck and neck when it comes to performance. What we are trying to say is that both cards will serve you equally well, get the one that's the cheapest of the two.

on another note OP the hd 4770 is on par with an hd 4850 on alot of games (and in some cases trumps it in dx10 scores) so that to is an option.

umm the 4770 is cheaper than both and is just as powerful as the 4850.the 9800gtx+ is slightly faster than the 4770, But the 4770 is way cheaper and more power efficent. I say the 4770

Depends on the price, i'd go for a GTS250 instead of the 9800GTX+ if you're going the Nvidia route.
