if you are going to spend 199 dollars then you should be getting a HD4850 instead of 9800GTX.

9800 GTX is of course the better card, you can buy a 8800GT tho for 149.99 off ncix.com... can't beat that price.

Wrong. The 9800GTX beats the HD4850 in some games and vice versa.

4850 is faster than a normal 9800GTX, the margin is really small I would say less than 5%

Wrong. The HD4850 beats an overclocked 9800GTX.

in all the benchmarks ive seen the HD3850 performs better apart from COD4 if i recall, if they were on par then nvidia would not have released its overclocked version (+)...

All the reviews done on 4850 were done on a stock card, with the fan speed increase it becomes another cool card, so a 4850 OC'd compares really good to a 9800+ probably beating it by a hair and a 4870 heavily overclocked will come pretty close to a 280GTX which is crazy at only 299$, go amd.

Go 8800 gt, on newegg for 129 dollars right now, a single one can run crysis on high (1280x768) lag-free (i just tried it last night.
