I'm just wondering if this game is worth buying for single player only.

also are the entrenchment and diplomacy expansions worth getting, or should I save a few bucks and only get the regular version.

I barely touched the multiplayer, and still thought pretty well of the game. I haven't bought the expansions, but the big problem with the original game was that there wasn't much strategy involved in the late-game. It basically turned into you creating 1-3 large fleets (depending on the size of the map), and then running it between enemy systems until you ran into an enemy fleet, and then simply hoped you had numerical superiority. Because thats what usually decided the outcome of the battle.

The expansions were supposed to fix this by adding better planetary defenses and more reasonable ways to win other than simply eliminating your opponents through military means. Hopefully someone who has them can give you a better clue about them.

I've been playing Sins of a Solar Empire on and off, and I think it's a really good game. I'm not a huge RTS fan, but I wanted a space strategy game and saw that it got mostly great reviews. I think the game gets a bit repetitive at times, especially when it comes to researching the same upgrades over and over again, map after map. Overall I do really enjoy building my planetary defenses and watching the opponents trying to take my home planet, and failing... All the while I'm off conquering new planets.

Overall I'd give it an 8/10. 2 points knocked-off for repetitive upgrading routine every map. Other than that, it's great. The music is epic, the graphics are pretty good for an RTS, the interface is pretty easy to use once you've played a mission. The pirates can get pretty annoying, but there are ways to deal with them.

From a guy who loves RTS it's a must get. :) The expansions also make it worth while especially Diplomacy as you can hire pirates to attack other factions secretly and also adds more diplomacy actions Entretchment is a good expansion but if you're not planning on getting Sins Of a Solar Empire Trinity just pick up Diplomacy and you'll be good to go. You'll have a blast commanding your own space fleet and the battles are pretty intense once you get all your rank ups and are able to command more than a bazillion frigates and have all your capital ships use their special abilites. Seeing all that in one screen can be pretty intense. The economy and research system is fantastic and well put. Also play the giant maps unless you want quick games :P Overall it's a great RTS

I am going to say it's worth it. But, just know it is very time consuming. A great game overall.

Fantastic RTS, though could use a little more 4X elements as it does get a little repetitive. I highly recommend it. The game doesn't have any campaign, but there is a large enough variety of free-for-all maps to keep you going even for single-player only. The mini-expansions make the game so much better. Get the Trinity pack if you can. [QUOTE="MrLions"] Entretchment is a good expansion but if you're not planning on getting Sins Of a Solar Empire Trinity just pick up Diplomacy and you'll be good to go.

You need Entrenchment to get Diplomacy. It's a requirement.

Yes, but make sure you have diplomacy. HUGE a.i. improvements, much more intelligent and behave like players.... they can be unpredictable and self interested. Which is perfect.

Single player lacks a campaign. You will be be playing scenarios or a randomly generated map. This game has a bit of learning curve that you can flatten out by finding some starting tips online.

The game basically is singleplayer. Only played online a couple of times and that was arranged beforehand with people I knew. Also, go for the expansions and maybe check out some mods.

This game has so much depth that, quite bluntly,I don´t give two s**** about the MP.

There´s no campaign, but if that´s what you want, you can always give GalCiv 2 a go. I actually like GalCiv 2 better.
