I have an e2220 @ 2.4ghz and a 8800GT, my frames get choppy at 1920 x 1080 on HIGH for games like Borderlands and MW2. (medium is fine)
Which part is in more need of an upgrade?

The CPU should be overclocked and the GPU isn't strong enough for 1080p in many games. Do the games run better at a lower resolution? If they do, your GPU is likely the culprit.
Won't be going anywhere at that resolution with that GPU even if he had an i7.overclock that cpu and you're good to go,i have my e2200 at 3 ghz,300 fsb 10 multiplier at 1.33v and it runs great,no crashes and good temps on stock cooler..
