I'm thinking of getting a new card in the distant future since I've had the 9800 for 3 years. I just want to know what would be a good noticeable upgrade? I'm not looking for anything expensive, something below $200. It doesn't really matter to me if it's ATI or Nvidia.

A GTX 560 might be around that price, but your cpu will make a difference on any improvement you would see.

The gtx 560 can be had for under $200 (non ti version). Not only does it run cool but it has ALOT of overclocking potential (you can get close to 1ghz core speed without even changing to voltage). Even non overclocked it usually gets around 3x the performance of a 9800GTX

All i got from that is there basically the same price and performance........... don't seehow that is funny ? (im guessing your fanboy is coming out ?)

Not only that but on that same website they had the gtx 560 (non ti) perform better on average on there 10 page review and it overclocked better than the 6870...... Don't see why your trying to start an arguement on near identical cards that are priced almost the same......

One charts that contradicts itself equals facts ? And get real, your intentions for posting that wasn't to inform the TC it was to start and arguement. If you wanted to actually inform you would of looked at it from both views of at least posted a review

Just reviewed their 1920x1200 reviews, the 6870 beats the 560 in 18/23 tests. Your "argument" is invalid.

yes and at this point its undeniable the 6870 is faster, and at the same time cheaper than a 560. The 6870 is the better choice period, end ofthread. But I would wait for the 7770 to release, its nearly here.

Its says in the review at the very end that the gtx 560 on average performed slightly faster at 1080p and that overall it was to close for a decisive winner

Its not really undeniable, depending on the game/drivers its really a toss up on most games. My point isn't necessarly oh Card A is better Card B. My point is that its kinda dumb to post a single chart with a biased message and claim it as facts. They both perform very close and the gtx 560 even edges it on overclocking (not only that but the 7 series isn't far away)

I know lots of people are debating 560 vs 6870 but IMO 6950 is the clear answer because it' running around $220 on tigerdirect right now.

Just going to throw this in the hat lol, the difference is so unsubstantial that it makes almost no difference which one you choose. Just get the brand you like :) *cough Nvidia *cough

well from most reviews ive seen, the chart that was posted is pretty accurate, its no toss up lol. Drivers is a personal preference, and not to mention the 6870 overclocks like a beast as well, who knows if it edges out the 560 or not, it depends on the card itself. The point is the 6870 is about $20 cheaper than the 560 and performs better at the same time. So with that said and everything else the same the cheaper card gets the vote.

The chart shows it within 5% without even noting the speeds/brand and then goes on to say on the same website that the gtx 560 barely edges it out overall. From everything ive seen the gtx 560 edges it out on overclocking (many get close to if not over the speeds of a gtx 570). If your overclocking get the gtx 560 but if not then the 6870 isn't even the most logical choice for an ATI card (7 series is on the horizon and the 6950 can be found under $190 with rebates)

link to prove the 560 non ti edges out a 570? Also link to a 560 beating out a 6870 after overclock

Theres my link. Like weve both been getting at stock for stock both cards are very similar. And even after overclocking the 560 barely touches the 560ti, something the 6870 is also able to do after an overclock. No 570 gtx in sight.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-560-amp-edition-gtx-560-directcu-ii-top,2944-17.html

With that said the 6870 is still $20 cheaper than the 560 gtx, but the 560 gtx is within $10 of the 6950. So if I were to get a $160 card it would be the 6870, and if I were to get a $190 card it would be the 6950 1gb. Again like you say the 7xxx radeon series will probably make both of these cards irrelevant.

Here a 560Ti costs the equivalent of $60 more than a 6870 :P

The choice is obvious.

TC wanted a card below $200. We don't know the rest of the system specs - there's a chance a card upgrade will make no difference. I also wanted to mention that if you wanted to have Physx in any games you'll want an Nvidia card.
