Hi guys,

On another thread i asked if i should buy a low-end Dell, and just put in a good GPU inside to have a gaming rig, and the response i got was that they were a rip off and that they were low quality. So now i (actually Me and my friend) want to build a system ourselves and i wanted to ask what you guys thought of the one i came up with. so here it is, adleast the first draft;

Case: NZXT Guardian 921 Blk ATX Mid Tower Case

Proccesor/CPU: Intel C2Q Q6700 2.66GHz OEM

Video Card/GPU: EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX(G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3

Power supply: NZXT PP-800 800-Watt

Memory/RAM: OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel

HardDrive/HD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Case Fans: MASSCOOL FD08025S1M4 80mm Case Fan

Bay Drive: LITE-ON Black 16X DVD-ROM 52X CD-R 32X CD-RW 52X CD-ROM SATA

=$800-$850

solid set up but i do place 1 word of caution:

9800gt is currently a mid range card. what this means for you: you will eventually have to swap up within the next 2-3 years.

What mobo? Does that power supply come with the case? If not, 800w is a little overkill for that system.

overkill PSU, overpriced worthless graphics, outdated CPU that isnt worth the price... if you want yorkfield, get a Q6600 266 mhz wont hurt, tet a 4850, as a general rule, they cost less than the 9800 GTX

"worthless graphics" might be a bit of an overstatement.

How much is the 9800gtx youre looking at? Becuase im pretty sure that you can get a better card for the same price. I highly recommend what i use, an ATI Radeon 4870.

Yeah, the PSU, the case,the motherboard and the proccesor come in one package. I am looking for the package deals, that come with the Proccesor already installed onto the motherboard, because as i said, me and my friend are just begginers, so we don't want to delve into the world of thermal paste and heatsinks just yet.

in response to the comment that the proccesor is "outdated", i think that i will not start worrying to much about what "QXXXXXX" it is but if theres a deal that has a better proccesor, i'm all for it. I think the main thing for my friend is to have a quad-core, because i have already pulled him away from the i7 line.

The GPU on this is selling for $150, which i don't believe is that bad, but when I compared it to a similarly priced Videocard (the SAPPHIRE 100245L Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3) i saw that the 9800GTX has only 128 stream proccesors, yet the 4850 (going for $130) has 800. In the ATI card the number 800 is followed by "Stream Proccesing Units" which may change the numbers is a deceptive way. Never the less, they look the same other then the stream.... conflict, so I am not worried about the GPU.

lets just say "too expensive, not worth the money"

what? the 4830 is equal to the nvidia 8800 GT, the 4850 is the equivalent (and beater) of the 9800 GTX / 8800 GTS 512, and the 4870 goes to the GTX 260, so no, not lesser, HUGELY lesser performance

If you don't wanna mess with thermal pastes and stuff, the Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro is only like $35, and it comes with the thermal paste already applied, and it's a really good heatsink. Installing a cpu is nothing more than putting the cpu on the motherboard, it doesn't get any easier. Here would be my recommendations...

Mobo-Asus P5QL Pro - $86.99

Case-Antec 300 - $64.95

CPU-Q6600 - $194.99

PSU-Thermaltake Purepower 500W - $49.99 ($29.99 after MIR)

HS-Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - $36.99

GPU-Sapphire HD4850 - $144.99 ($129.99 after MIR)

RAM-Crucial Ballistix 4gb ddr2 800 - $47.99

HD-WD 640gb 7200rpm 32mb cache - $72.99

DVD Drive-LG 22x - $24.99

Total = 724.87 ($689.87 after MIR)

incorrect the 3870 is eq. to the 8800 series, the 4830 is eq. to the 9800's i will illuminate with a link shall we a comparison tool of the two cards in how i see it:http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=575&card2=586

and then yours

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=551&card2=586

so the way i see it you sir have fallen from the chair of sanity.
