People will probably rage because they are going to "lose" their characters, but the majority will go play the new game.

I think there won't be a "new" WoW instead they will continue evolving the current one until eventually it is a pretty much a whole new game.

i believe Blizzard is announcing new mmo on 2011 blizzcon . Blizzard needs new players , most of newbs are afraid to try wow or have bad memorys when few years ago they could find that mother boar for quest and they quit ... since the majority of wow devs are working on new mmo , expect for insane game !

Or continue "evolving" it until it pretty much fails.

I'm pretty sure any new MMO they make won't have the same impact as WoW. WoW was incredible back in the day and it got people hooked. Since then they've changed the game so much, and almost entirely for the worse, yet since they hooked people a lot just stick around.

Their current mantra at blizzard is to make WoW the simplest it could possibly be because that's what they think people want. Now unless they're going back to the days when things were more difficult with a new MMO then it won't be hooking people into it. I can't imagine many people would want to play a new game if it started out as dumbed down as WoW is right now.

Two things are certain.

1) Blizzard WON'T make a WoW 2. Why would they? WoW is doing well and they keep enhancing the GFX engine makes no sence to do it.

2) Blizzard's new MMO WON'T have a fantasy setting. This would be in direct competion with WoW then (So no World Of Diablo!)

We could see World Of Starcraft. World of Lost Vikings :P But I think we will have a totally new IP.

First of all there wont be a WoW 2. If there will be it will come in 10+ years time. Why? Becouse WoW is still insanely popular and looking at how long games with a smaller populations have been out WoW could actually last way longer than for the next 10 years. Also there wont be a WoW 2 becouse Blizzard is working on an secret new mmo. The only thing that is known is that it has nothing to do with any of Blizzs ips. Some think that the new mmo has been development for 2 or 3 years, becouse few years back Blizz was looking for people for a new project. If they have been working since 2007 its not unlikely that they will reveal the game at next years Blizzcon. That ofcourse does not mean the game will come out any time soon. They do not need to hurry so even if the game is revelead next year it might not see a release date for 2 years if not more.

Hypothetically speaking if there was a WoW 2 to be released its impact would be nowhere near that of the first WoW. WoW is a phenomenon. It came at the right time and gave people an alternative to the at the time, more hardcore mmos out there. It introduced players that would never get into EQ or Ultima to the mmo genre. Its kind of like Wii getting non gamers to play videogames for the first time.
