i run a 22" next to my 17" and i haven't noticed any degrade in quality when i play full screen games on the 22", the 2nd monitor does stay on with all my message windows, i haven't tried it with just the 22" alone but i don't see why it would degrade the quality.
if anything the 17" looks worse compared to the new beautiful 22" screen
Hey guys, a quickie question. So I just purchased a brand new 22" monitor, but my old 17" one is still sitting around. Since my 8800GT does have an extra port out back, I thought why not, and I connected my old monitor for dual monitor happiness. Or not. According to a few people, by hooking up my second monitor I'm degrading the image quality of my first one. Is this true? Obviously, I want to play my games at the highest possible image quality; this stupid little 17" is not worth degrading the image quality of all my games. So basically: does it? Should I disconnect the second monitor for the sake of making my pirmary one display better image?
Opalescent
You should try it and see for yourself. If you don't notice a drop in quality (I don't see why there would be), no use in denying yourself a second monitor just because someone tells you it might look better with just one.
It doesn't concern image quality. It could, depending on how you intend to use the displays, affect frame rate though.
For example, playing a game on display 1 whilst leavingMessenger showingon display 2 won't affect the game's performance (if playing online, however, messenger could cause a little lag).
When playing Supreme Commander, on the other hand, with the main game on display 1 & the game map on display 2 there is a slight impact on framerate, especially later in the game when there are lots of units. I actually think this is caused by my processor though (X2 3800+), not my gpu (8800 gts).
Another option is spanning high resolutions across 2 monitors. This will affect the framerate considerably.
Like the guy above says, because our specs are all so different, you need to try it for yourself. It don't take long.
