Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Processor

EVGA nForce 790i Ultra SLI Motherboard

Windows Vista Home Prem 64-bit

Corsair XMS3 DHX 2048MB Dual Channel PC10600 DDR3 1333MHz Memory

EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+ Video Card

Planning on ordering this system soon, (didnt include things not related to performance), and would just like to get a few opinions on it....

And also, what settings would this system be able to play CRYSIS on?.... just as a benchmark..

Save your money on the DDR3 and 9800GTX. DDR2 and a 8800GTS 512mb will do just the same.

No Not really the 9800GTX is just a renamed 8800GTS 512 and good DDR2 has faster response timings than DDR3. You can go with DDR3 if you want, but if you want have the same or better performance for less why not? Nvidia pushed the 9's series just to fill in the gap between the newer set of cards the GTX's 260/280 which arent really a big improvment over the newer 8800's. Ethier get 8800GT/GTS 9800GX2 or GTX 260. SLI Two 8800GT's which will out perform a gtx 260 on some games and perform around the same and is almost half the cost.

First of all, lose the DDR3. With current hardware, it shows little to no improvement over DDR2 at all.

Now then, obviously, lose the 790i board as well. I would suggest picking up a mobo with a P45, X38 or X48 chipset and an HD4850 or 4870. However, if you are set in sticking with Nvidia, ignore what the other person said. The 9800GTX+ is undeniably better than the 8800GTS. It also costs about the same price as the 8800GTS, making it a far better value...

Get a 750i chipset if you decide to go with Nvidia video card(s).

Also, Carraher how do figure two 8800GT's cost significantly less than a GTX 260? GTX 260's can be purchased for under $250 currently; two 8800GT's would cost at least $240 or more...

9800GTX+ Rival is The HD4850 Toxic of Sapphire it really close so it better then 8800GTS AT ALL COST the user was a idiot
and if you seek for a motherboard with quality P45 Id recommand and if you seek crossfire futur X48 (better overclock i hearda s well from such as Foxcom black ops. or DFI Party LX or was it was LS ? the name at the end.
IF you go with 9800GTX+ Il show you a review VS HD4850 Toxic but if you really want performances id get a HD4870 all the way

and for cpu where u live ? if you in canada or usa. usa id pick Q9550 at 320$ it much better http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115041
or id get the E8400-E8500 And Overlcock aroudn 3.8 4.0ghz for Gaming it would perform better then Q6600 & Q6700 On majority of game. does of high clock

Im pretty set with the DDR3... even though it is a small improvement, it IS an improvement....

And also, DDR2 will be phased out Sometime in the next 2-3 years.... and I want this PC to be futureproof, even though I am going to be upgrading it (2/3 way SLI, 6GB RAM, ETC.)

Um no a whole 1-5 fps faster thats because of the overclock they put on 9800GTX.... Their performance is so close why do you think that most sites that were promoting the 9800GTX didnt include the 8800GTS in their benchys.... because the performance were so close it wouldnt put the 9800GTX in the spotlight. The two are so close if both were clocked the same they would be tied. Now the cheapest GTX 260 I seen was $300 roughly and went upto $430 so two 8800GT's is still cheaper any way you look at it.

We are also talking about the 9800GTX+, which is better than an 8800GTS. A 9800GTX+ is on par with the 4850, which is considerably better than the 8800GTS.

As for the price, I don't know where you're looking, but all the etailers I check have a handful of GTX 260s for well under $300.

RFOMownage: DDR3 isn't an improvement. It's vastly overpriced for the same performance you could get from DDR2 for much cheaper.. As I stated before, current hardware can't really make use of DDR3 properly. If you want to use DDR3 so badly, wait a few months for Nehalem and X58 mobos.

you won't need any extra then 4GB of ram even with sli / Tri sli. also if you want to tri sli 9800GTX or Sli 9800GTX let me tell you it almost a waste of money. for 250-310$ in sales soon you may see 260GTX OC. those are much better
How Ever regard ram if you want even a small ipormven tog toward first 2GB 1600mhz. or 4GB If you got money.
ME im doing a way more futur proof pc tough
im was thinking of E8600 : X48 Foxcom black ops. : Corsair 1000wATS PSU for durabillity & futureproof for video card for a good time and Thermtalke Armor or any better case if ic an find any better : DDR2 800mhz i stick them for now 2GB
will change if needed for overclocking the E8600 at high frequancy like 4.8GHZ or 5.0ghz if it allow it . cpu cooler OCZ Vendeta II
hard Drive will keep my good 320GB.
VIdeo card 4870x2 (outperofrm anytime 3x 9800GTX ) or near it ;)
i estimet toal cost aroudn 1700$ Canadians with sales of my product. i got even enough money for buy right after it a 1920x1200 monitor 24 inch and a Second 4870x2 by not so far after if i wanted lol

Why spend so much on a mainboard and ddr3 and skimp on a cpu. You honestly cant compare a 9800gtx to a 8800gt or 8800gts. If you are going to spend so much money on a 790i you might as well get a gtx260 or 280. The gtx260 was a big upgrade from my 9800gtx.

Do you have any recent benchmarks to prove that? The first drivers for the 9800gtx were pretty bad.
