Im just going to say...Jango is right for whoever is arguing with him....You have to be more than rockheaded for them to advertise it as a dime and then say "LOL THEY MADE A MISTAKE ITS A DIME". It's the price they put it at, I dont see how you argue they messed up......Regardless of "they arn't making profit it can't be true"...it's spreading the word of the service. Nuff said. (On side note, bought and downloading!)

Yeah... a) the service needs good word of mouth and people installing/using it in a kind of gateway drug fashion. b), MSP and $ aren't a 1:1 ratio. If you look at other games on the service, $39.99 translates into 3200 points, etc. They deliberately set it at 10 for each, probably going for 'as low as is practical without being free' to get said users installing/using GFWL to punch in our CC info so it's there for 'next time.' All of that adds up to say that if this was a mistake, this wasn't a single mistake - it was two separate mistakes on the same game at the same time. Pretty unlikely.

[QUOTE="murekkep"]Not available outside of US. How nice.blangenakker
typical

Works in the UK, downloading now for 10 MS Points. Listed as 10p but I had 80 MS Points that I've had left over for years and thought might as well.

Edit: To all the people saying it's a mistake - GFWL is having a relaunch soon so this gets the word around about the service. Plus isn't it Black Friday time in America anyway where massive discounts abound?

Did you even check the front page?

JangoWuzHere

Do you even bother to read the entire thread before posting? On the first page of this thread, I posted that it's on the front page... I already purchased it for 10 cents and I've been playing the game already. SHEESH!

Fair enough, but how is it an error like you said?

Well, I have no proof! :P It's just that 10 cents is way too suspicious for it to be a legitimate sale or discounted price. Wouldn't they advertise it as a sale? If you search Age of Empires 3 Complete Collection, they're going for $40. I'm sure you can find one for less, but not 10 cents! Lucky us though! I'm really enjoying the game and I would pay at least $10 for them. :D But I didn't :P

I'm at the download page, but I'm nervous. What if I purchase it now, but Microsoft realizes that they've made a mistake and charge me the full price at a later time? Can they do that? By the way, what is the full price?

BluRayHiDef
no they cant because then they are breaking the law for false advertisement. anyways 10 cents is a steal, im not a big rts guy, i have SC2 and what not its cool but i dont really play it... but might as well get this for 10 freakn cents lol

LOL yup. Ubisoft made a mistake just like this and priced Assassin's Creed 1 & 2 animus bundle at $1. Luckily, I grabbed it up before they changed the price back.

Thinking about it, I could be possible that they priced it at 10 cents just to promote GFWL. Usually when it's a mistake they they catch it really quickly and change the price back. Everyone wins in this situation I guess.

Got it, works in Finland too. I think it's because AOE Online or whatever is coming, so this game won't be worth much after that, might as well give it away and hopefully attract new fans for the series.

I still couldnt believe i got the whole AOE3 thingy for 10 cents...I've been thinking of getting this game for a LONGGGG time. The only way a deal could be more brutal than this if they actually pay us to buy a game from them :P

LOL Microsoft winning gamers over with top deals, I heard they were gonna push GWFL, I didn't think they actually meant it. Also it helps its the week before Black Friday. Anyways I am installing the evil spawn that is GFWL; which I also suspect is why they are selling so low.

It works outside of US if you visit your local Marketplace-site and then navigate to AOE III. The link links to the US store which is why some can't buy it.

Ah but here is the funny bit, they have already had their re-launch. The Marketplace was relaunched on the 15th November 2010 and less than a week later they are having to resort to cheap tricks like this to actually get people to use the service  .

I take it you haven't actually BEEN to the GFWL site recently? They have been having deals like this every day SINCE the 15th of November, to get more publicity and encourage more people to see the new relaunch.

Erm no they haven't, they haven't had a single game on sale at the GFWL marketplace for 10p until now. They were selling GTA 4 for about £7.50, then it was Dawn of War for a tenner if I remember and then they had Bioshock for £1.99. In short their deals have struggled to match anything that steam has to offer during their various sales. So in order to actually get people to USE the service they have resorted to this 10p deal with AOE III, it just smells of desperation.

Uhhh...believe what you want to believe. The truth of the matter is MS owns the AoE franchise, and publishing rights, and shut down the developers AND AoE stopped selling a long time ago. They lowered the price to this for the sole reason that they could.

I know they own the A0E franchise, they lowered the price to GET people to USE their service. It is a "loss leader" you offer a deal like this to get people in the "virtual door" hoping they will spend more. Now that isn't very promising if it is happening less than a week after their great grand "re-launch".

In fact, when Valve released the Mac version of steam, they gave away Portal for FREE. Are you going to say that was "desperation" ? No, it was marketing. This is common practice.

I wouldn't call 10 cents a deal.. more like a ploy. Have you seen Steam do something like this before? At least make it $2... :P I'm not complaining though... keep up the 10 cent games...LOL

It's a great idea just to get people accustomed to using the service. I've never used it before, but have now and will surely check out deals over the hollidays.

Yeah you see when D2D revamped their search engine and Valve released the Mac version of steam the offers were on LAUNCH of the improved services. This AOE 3 deal is a week after GFWL relaunch. So a week after they launched their service they are now offering this deal, how can you not see this could be construed as "desperation" ?

You just need to look at the posts in here, when this deal was discovered most thought it was a mistake. Historically Valve has always been generous to their customers. If Valve had done this deal on their service no one would have gone "OMGZ that must be a mistake". Microsoft have never had a history of being generous, in fact they are far from generous and will nickel and dime you to hell and back if they can. Yet all of a sudden a week after launch they do this deal ???

I can't see it being construed as "Desperation" because they have had sales all week. It is common practice to end a week of sales with the best deal of the lot. The only people who DONT do that are Valve, whose last day of a week sales a stupid mix of things that were already on sale over the week. You can keep hating GFWL and MS if you want, MS is a terrible company, GFWL is a terrible service, but trying to say this offer is "Desperate" is just silly. If MS had started the week with this offer, then everyone would have spent the rest of the week moaning about how disappointing the rest of the deals have been since it.

The way I see it, not only does this give them tons of advertising from the community, they are also able to get us to basically temporarily void the hundred points that the ten points come from. Because you can't really earn tens of points at a time, if you think about it, you'll have to buy another hundred points at least if you want to get something else on the market that is just above your available points. Unless, of course, they have even more deals like this :D.

Yeah, that's a good point too. I'm just so used to having a surplus amount of points that I've been hoarding for no reason that I don't even consider credit card as an option.

I had 430 MS Points left over from a purchase I made one or two years ago, now I have 420 MS Points. Thanks Microsoft! My first game on your service.

... something is wrong, my credit card is saying I've been charged $1.00, not .10c... that's not what I thought I was buying the game for. Is anyone else having this happen to them?

If the Gift was possible, I would've bought it for you.

Thank you mister! It worked for me here in Canada. I was no honestly interested in the game - but it's hard to pass up for change I'd probably find on the sidewalk.

why can't more games be worth the same price? That's what every company should do, after 5 years just sell the game for 10 cents as download

Just installed the game and sampled it for a bit. It looks like it'll be pretty fun. It's 10 cents well spent. It runs pretty damn well on my rig as well; 96 framers per second with all settings maxed out at 1920x1080. However, I've yet to play any intense action sequences. Will the performance drop quite a bit during those?

You shouldn't get any FPS drops on that rig. The game is 5 years old...
