Age of Empires Online Beta is up

Sorry if already posted. Till Sunday, the AoEO beta will be going on. The only problem is that you have to use GFWL for it.

Downloading now. I hope it is good. Also, I hope that the microtransactions do not get in the way too much. If they do the same approach that Red5 is doing with Firefall, then I will be happy.

Its an awesome game, though I dont see why people are only now trying it. The closed beta has so many keys on so many sites to be given out that its not really closed. Anyway the game is really nice both graphically and gameplaywise. The microtransactions arent in the game at this point I think cause the market does not work yet so its hard to say what it will be like after its opend but for now its certainly worth peoples time.

I agree, the game rocks. Very addictive and I look forward to its official release.

I'm liking it a lot, it's pretty good.

So I played it a bit last night and it is actually pretty fun so far. Only done the really simple missions so far, but from looking at the skill tree and the customization of your main city's buildings I can see there is potential for depth. The graphics are simple, but they are ok.

I'm sad now.

The graphics are like the ones we used to see in Kindergarten books. :)

On the site, after I log in, it keeps asking for my billing info. For a free game. I can't be arsed to find a proper UK address and phone number - I don't live in one of the 35 blessed by God countries that have access to GFWL, so I made a UK account years ago...

I tried using the GFWL client, but it keeps crashing.

Well some people can be put off by the graphical styIe. I'm not playing Japanese games because the art drives me crazy!

I wish they kept the retro AoE 1/2 graphics, but to be honest I doubt I'd care after a couple of games.

I managed to play it. It's beautiful and fun, but it needs a save function for SP missions. I lost connection to the server and now I have to replay a mission, it's very frustrating.

I think the graphics are good enough.

I don't like it becuase it feels more like a facebook game

According to the site, there won't be microtransactions. They say it'll basically be like DLC kind of package deals ex- Quest packs, map packs, etc. So, no item/blue print purchases or stuff like that.

I'm in the process of figuring out whether or not MS is allowing footage of the game on YT. If they are, I'll be probably throwing a preview up on Machinima Realm soon, for the people who are interested in seeing the game.

I'm liking it so far. The artstyle is nice and clean and the gameplay is classic AoE. It's very polished as well. If people want something akin to AoE2, check out 0 A.D.
