****Aion Open Beta***

So the open beta for Aion starts the 6th of september, and i have already downloaded the game ( 9 GBs)

Since it is an open beta i dont need no special key right? anyone can get in?

Apparently the beta isn't actually "open." They just put the "open" there to confuse people.

You'll probably need a Key, most online betas do. If you haven't already, register on http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/aion/beta/ to make sure.kieranb2000

Couldn't care less about MMOs in general anymore. Maybe I will when I get into some developer team.

If anyone has a extra key, I'd be glad to use it because this is the first mmo I will play.

I actually went ahead and bought it off of Steam. I already downloaded it, is that download what I go to for during beta? I click it now and nothing happens, I thought it would refer me to Ncsoft to start the launcher and get an Ncsoft account going?

The client from Steam is not all you need. You also need the 1.0-->1.5 patch.

Your best bet is probably NCSoft's torrent. You can also get it through the updater, but it's probably going to be very slow.

In addition, you also need to create an NCSoft Master Account. After you do that, log in, and then apply your product key which Steam gives you. You will get it in your e-mail, and you can also view it in Steam by right-clicking on the game-->"View game CD-Key"

Something I learned with the Champions Open beta. OPEN beta doesnt mean PUBLIC. I got in though by getting a key for free at a french site. Aion keys were available on aloooot of different game sites also for free, but they are probobly all gone. I am pretty sure there was a list of the sites on the Aion page.

Many games and MMO requite keys for open beta even WoW did it most fo the time Open beta just means no NDA

Hmm, I can't find anywhere in amongst the "OPEN BETA - DOWNLOAD HERE" links and info saying you need a key :/ If you do need a key then their site is terribly misleading, or I'm completely blind. I was looking forward to trying it out before jumping in and buying it. Not gonna drop £40 on a game I can't try out first.

Preorder for only 5 dollars at Gamestop or Best Buy to get a key and you can get into the open beta. If it's worth 5 dollars to you.

Actually you can't cancel your Gamestop preorder once you use the code, this is straight from their site: Orders may not be canceled once beta code has been sent

Everyone boycott Fileplanet and these practices stop. Period.

If no one is paying for their crappy website then no company would go into partnership with them with these exclusive beta event deals. As long as people pay for this crap you likely will not see a true open beta again in the future.

But then you've paid up to £40 (uk) for a game you might not like enough to pay a subscription for :)

Hopefully there will be a free trial, otherwise - like many others I imagine - I won't be spending £40 on a game that I can't try out first. A truly open beat would have generated much more interest for the game also.

The way I've heard it described is that in the Abyss (level 25 or so) you can PVP and there's a third faction, NPC controlled by the CPU. So it's more PVPVE since that 3rd faction can show up and attack both sides.
