Yeah sure it'll be the new WoW - in the same way that Age of Conan and Warhammer Online were also the new WoW.

WoW is the only MMO to ever get such success, and I bet it will be the only one for the next 20 years.

With that said, I have seen nothing but good news about Aion.

I've tried the beta and Pre-ordered the CE for Aion because to be honest this looks a lot more fun than WoW ever was, though I will never be able to ride my mechano-hog in Aion I'll at least be able to have WINGS! Nothing could ever beat that, and besides the story is a lot better since it seems like you have to follow one specific story all the way to lvl 50 which makes the game a lot more immersive to me instead of just coming with some random task from some random guy. The starting grounds for Aion just aren't pulling me in, it's beautiful & creative but the problem is that after you've played for around 30 seconds everything will get torn apart by war, and though I can see why that is relevant to the story being that you are a mercenary, it just sort of ruined it all for me. I know that I'll start playing Aion when I get it installed and that but I would kinda feel like abandoning all my friends since they are all playing wow, maybe I'll just convert them to join the Aion side.

WoW is the only casual mainstream MMO which is why its so popular Aion is not as casual so no way will it get more then 1 million subs but it is a great game.

WoW is a game that received countless awards and high reviews and reccomendations. That's why it's so popular. You can say that it's because it's a Blizzard game, or that it's because it has Warcraft in it's title, but if that were the case, so many people wouldn't still be playing it after 5 years. There's been plenty of competition for Blizzard and if those other titles had been better games, they would have more subscribers.

High reviews and awards have nothing to do with it GTA Chinatown would like to have a word with you if you believe thats true. WoW is as popular as it is now because it is a casual mainstream MMO with good gameplay.

Yeah, you're right, it is popular because it has good gameplay. Like I said above, people wouldn't have stuck with the game if it wasn't as good as it is. And the subscription figures wouldn't have risen like the have either. I'm not sure what you mean by GTA Chinatown, for one thing that's a DS game and I doubt many people own a DS for GTA games. One of the reasons WoW gained so much popularity was it's review scores and the awards it was gaining. Seems like you're just trying to avoid admitting that WoW is an excellent MMO game that attracted people who had never played a Blizzard game, a Warcraft game, or an MMO game.

WoW is only casual for a time... then it either becomes a hardcore raid grind or a hardcore rep grind to get progression. Which is why I quit WoW and am happy to land in Aion for as long as it is still fun.

Sure its a good game but I dont see how it has anything to do with its awards and reviews , WoW was already successful at its launch because of the rts franchaise and it happened to have good gameplay etc to keep its player base , the older WoW got the more "open" it became for new WoW/MMO/casual players the more popular it became as there has been no mainstream casual MMO made which is the main reason it currently has 6-5 milion subscribers.

If you are talking about TBC expansion then yes but that is no longer true

There really isn't raid progression anymore with the changes to Heroics.

one more reason I'm glad I left. It was a blast while it lasted, but oh well.

Exactly.

I'm going to be playing Aion, but the people who think it will put any significant dent in WoW's customer base are crazy..

To be honest I don't want Aion to be "the new WoW". I preordered the game to play something different and fresh, not play something that reminds me of WoW...I would rather play WoW than a copy of WoW...
