I'll buy any new HL game as soon as I can get my hands on it. I'm not sitting around waiting for it, though. Everyone knows Valve works on Valve time. I think it may be due to them quite possibly having the last competent quality assurance department left in the gaming industry.
This is what I think... HL3 is going to be multi platform. Lets face it folks that just how its going to be. There is no way that HL3 is going to be PC exclusive. It just aint gonna happen. Good news? Well semi good news. They are waiting for the next gen consoles. Reason? More powerful hardware to work with. There is no doubt that HL3 is going to be using a brand spanking new engine. Lord knows Valve needs a updated engine. Thing is... they want HL3 to be multi platform sooooo they wait... wait for a more pwerful next gen console to work with.
Thing is Valve didnt know they would be waiting this long for the next gen consoles to be comming out. Typically a generation of consoles last 4-5 years? Not so with this gen. So there... you have your answer why HL3 is taking so long. They are waiting for "PS4 and XBOX 720". I am guessing a Q4 2014 release if not 2015.Thats my opinion and im sticking to it.
My main reason backing this theory of mine is the simple fact that there is no way in heck that Valve does NOT make HL3 a multi platform game. I am sorry I just refuse to believ HL3 will be PC exclusive. So why not release it on 360 and PS3 then? Cuz... no way they are going to make a brand new engine for that ancient hardware that is the 360 and PS3. They are not going to let those systems gimp there new engine that will be used for years and years to come for their future games.
So there you have it. My opinion
Good points: - Didn't some of the former Half Lifes come out for consoles too? I can't remember. - The current generation of consoles could easily handle the HL2 engine....or HL3 engine I reckon - Still no excuse NOT to release Episode 3 using the HL2 engine - It's gonna be weird for console people.... play a part 3 for the first time???This is what I think... I remember nothing about Ep. 1 and the only thing about Ep. 2 I remember was the fantastic ending. Other than that, it's been very mediocre. I want to see a proper sequel to HL2 and so far Valve haven't delivered.GooeykatHow can you say the Episodes were "mediocre"? hahahahah They were awesome and expanded heaps on from HL2

I think HL2 might have been released. If it was, obviously it was a fail release. So this kinda gives more of a reason why Valve will want to have a multi-platform same time release. Would give much more hype to the console version of the game. Kinda like Crysis 2.
I can't agree with you that the current gen could handle a true HL3 engine. Think about it... how long is Valve going to use this next engine? 10 years? Valve doesnt release a new engine ever few years. They make a new one and stick with it. This new engine is going to be a major leap from the current one. Creating a new engine to be used for the next 10 years on 6 year old hardware.... tell me... how much does that make sense to you?
Yea, I dont know why they would not release EP 3... thise one has me scratching my head. Like I said maybe they decided to scrape EP 3 and make HL3 and thought the next gen consoles would be comming out soon. Idk... this is a hole in my theory lol
Consolers dont care if its part 3. They didnt care that Crysis was part 2.
