Am i good for 1680x1050 high detail on crysis?

Hi everyone. first off i know i don't need RAM or a cpu but would like to know if i have to turn down the settings to get playable frame rates on high detail. i just got this new pc and picked up crysis for a bargain (about US$30 (NZ$50)). anyway on to the pc

CPU: Intel quad core Q9300 @ 2.5 (may overclock but don't really think i'll have to)

RAM:4GB ddr800

Graphics: XFX 9800gtx (not 100% sure which version it is but willpost when i know for sure)

also would like to know if it's worth buying a new mobo for SLI if i were to upgrade it later for future games (most probably another 9800gtx)

Just so you know the 9800GTX is hardly any better than a 8800GTS 512mb. The only thing that can play Crysis on high @ 1680x1050 is a 9800GX2,,,but that will only be about 30FPS average!

ok i'm not asking if i should replace it with an outdated graphics card just asking if it will play it at high detail (NOT very high) at 1980 with playable frame rates or if i will have to turn it down to say 1440x968 or watever the next smallest widescreen is (can't remember exactly which)pinkyfull

So if thats the case it means the 9800GTX CANT play it at that resolution on high settings.

You will be able to play it on high at 1440x900 though at high settings with a 9800GTX.

Also the point i was trying to make is that its a dumb decision to buy a 9800GTX over a 8800GTS 512mb!

He said high not very high and yes that card is more than enough to play crysis at that resolution at HIGH not very high( you will also be able to play it with mix high and very high settings at that resolution at about 30fps). And dont use any antialising because no matter the card you have even if you have sli using antialisng in crysis is a big hit in performance (maybe you can use 2x antialisng at lower res.) and besides antialising at that high resolutions doesnt make much of a differnce in quality. Bythe way i play crysis with 8800gt at 1680x1050 at mostly high settings with a couple of settings to medium

Well you must have a very good 8800GT my friend! I have one and i get slow down at 1440x900...i think i smell something.

Here are some benchmarks.

at 1440x900 can run crysis at 36fps all high and that is under dx10 under dx9 expect almost 40

at 1680x1050 you get 27(i have a couple settings on medium and i get about 30)

I belive Crysis is one game the 9800GTX is a bit faster in but I agree on the conclution.

I'm not sure how that's possible. The benchmark (I assume we're talking about Benchmark_GPU.bat) has no AI processing, so that removes load from your CPU. It also has nothing happening, so actual gameplay can only run worse. I suppose I can't speak for others, but my experience with multiplayer is that it runs far worse than singleplayer. I can run the campaign on some High settings, but the multiplayer has me put things on Medium.

EDIT: i DO NOT want an 8000 series card just so you know i'll prolly upgrade in a bout 6 months and by then the 8000's will have hit the dustbin IMO.

I can play Crysis at around 45 frames on high settings at 1680x1050 with

amd athlon 64 5600+ (2.8 ghz)

so yes, you should be able to do it quite easily, just dont turn on aa

I wouldn't do either; the HD 4870, HD 4870 X2 or one of new the Nvidia cards would be a better investment. That said, you shouldn't upgrade for just one game. Save your money till your rig actually has trouble across the board.
