Everyone I ask (in real life) says (about 12 people, some family, some from my school) "Wow. You actually liked Fallout 3 more than Fallout New Vegas?" or "Fallout New Vegas is way better" or some variances of that.

But, I just could not get into Fallout New Vegas. I should, and really try to...but it just doesn't hook me like Fallout 3 did/does. FO:NV has crafting, and I love it...making my own bullets, food...the setting is nice, especially since there are places I can say "wow, I know this place! I've been here!"...but there is just something about it I don't like at all.

On the other side...Fallout 3 was my first Fallout game, maybe that has something to do with it. But I later played Fallout 2 and loved that as well...so FO 3 being first shouldn't have anything to do with me liking it more. I loved FO3 setting a lot more than Vegas...but that isn't really it either. The atmosphere to me was way better, but that again isn't it. I played FO3 for literally a year, I was REALLY into it...still do bursts of playtime on it. I racked up hundreds and hundreds of hours in FO3, but I didn't use Xfire at the time until near the end. Where as FO:NV I played a week, and said "meh". I really loved the vault scene in FO3...but that is kind of minor, since it is more of a tutorial thing. Maybe it is a lot of reasons all added up...

Am I the odd one out, and one of the few that actually liked Fallout 3 more? Any of you liked it more than Fallout New Vegas? My friends think I'm weird for liking FO3 more...not like I care what others think, but just curious if any others feel the same as me?

You are not alone. I really liked Fallout 3 a lot, it took time to get into sure, but when I got past a few quests it started to really get going with me. Fallout New Vegas however just has not got me sucked in. I should give it more time but I am frustrated with the game as I am stuck but the game mechanics are not helping me with the issue (I have gone into some building to rescue a sherif, however when I have done this he gets killed every time we leave the building as I am low on health packs and he refused to join up with me). The combat feels a lot more AI centric now where they seem more powerful than you (which is fine later on depending on how you use your stats) but I did not feel the same way with Fallout 3 at a similar stage. I feel like the design has not been as carefully done so far and missions seem to be hit and miss at where they are aimed at level wise. On Fallout 3 I did not feel compelled to level grind, but on this game I feel like I am going to have to reload an old save and start level grinding to be able to actually do this quest. /rant

For many people Fallout 3 was kinda of a different thing, so a lot of people enjoyed it because it felt like it was something new. It didn't have that effect with the expansion, after all, it is pretty much the same game. If you played the 3rd one, you've played 70% of NV. Perhaps is just that.

I, personally, felt that NV was much better written and populated. The atmosphere however being better on the 3rd one, i'd have to agree.

I think New Vegas is overall a better game, but most people played Fallout 3 first. New Vegas doesn't give you that fresh feeling like a new game, since it is so similar to Fallout 3.A lot of people consider it an expansion set for this reason.

You're not the only one.

I don't share your opinion though.

They were both addicting and fun, but somehow New Vegas felt like a lot more.

Fallout New Vegas was about 9.5/10

Fallout3 was about 6/10 for me

New Vegas felt like a Fallout game, Fallout3 did not. New Vegas has much better story, dialogue, characters, questing structure, better rpg elements, better gameplay and way more missions.

Only thing that Fallout3 did better hten New Vegas imo is the radio stations, everything else New Vegas does way better.

You're not alone on this. Like you said, New Vegas sports a lot of features that Fallout 3 didn't. New Vegas also has more in the ways of quests and stuff to do (though Fallout 3 puts most of today's SP games to shame in this departement as well), but, at least from the ones I did, I found the fewer side quests in Fallout 3 to be a lot more interesting.

And as others said, I too prefer the setting and atmosphere of Fallout 3. The only thing that really bothers me with that game is the technical issues. The game runs fine up until the point where you reach 25-30 hours of playtime, after which it's a lot more prone to crash or freeze, at least for me. An additional 10-20 hours in, it gets even worse. If it wasn't for this, I'd be a lot more encouraged to perfect my characters and get the most out of this gem.

Fallout 3 was and is a pretty terrible Role Playing Game. However one advantage it does have on NV is that it's introduction isn't astoundingly bad. On the flip side NV gets better from the start, whereas Fallout 3 seeks to insult your intelligence.

You're not the only one. I enjoyed Fallout 3 allot more than New Vegas.

It felt more of a wasteland, and I liked the story allot better as well.

I still finished New Vegas, but only because I payed $60 for it.

Fallout 3 is the first game that I finished twice, one making good decisions and one making bad decisions.

I really couldn't get into Fallout 3, I tried about 5 times... got out of the vault and did a bunch of stuff in Megaton but it just got really boring very quick. New Vegas on the other hand is totally opposite, I've played through the game like 5 times and it's just a really fun experience for me.

Setting and atmosphere was much, much better in Fallout 3 to me. Obsidian did a good job of getting the gameplay more refined and polished in New Vegas though.

I'm in the Vegas is better side - although I played FO3 more it was lacking anything atm more then really liking it, or to load a save and redo a quest line. FO NV is way more polished and more options than FO3. My 2 anyway.

Add me to the list,I enjoyed FO3 twice as much as NV, I dont know why I played FO3 3 times, I never finished NV once, got to the end in vegas where you had to pick sides, but another game came out and I never went back. I guess it didnt seem as fresh and I was one of the few that got alot of bugs at release.

Fallout New Vegas I though had a much strong story, and more interesting story options and paths. However Fallout 3 was a funner playground I though just to get out and play around. Plus it was nice seeing a familiar city all torn to pieces and visiting familiar sights. You couldn't quite do that in the new and improved Vegas.

To be honest, I simply can not get into either and I have tried many times. Maybe at the end of the day I'm just not big on sandboxes. I dont really like walking around aimlessly only to find a couple of giant ass scorpians and some ammuntion boxes. I always tend to get bored at a certain point. Usually when I get to Primm or that Mohave outpost. The VATS system frustrates me also. Always going to slow motion when killing a roach or bug.

Another thing is I'm not big on the dialogue of these games. Due to the voice acting everything is so simple and makes the majority of charcters kinda boring and many similar to one another.

I think for me I like the atmosphere but it's the dull combat and conversations that put me off.
