the 780ti was a low class move on the part of nvidia, and everyone here knows it. Well, its one on a long list of shady tactics from a company that has no integrity in itself, and stuff like this just drives people away.
Instead of releasing the 780ti in the beginning, they waited for AMD to release the r290x, then one week later released the 780ti. It was that important to them to maintain the graphics crown. They knew if they released the 780ti before hand, then AMD would have made the r290x even more powerful. This kind of move on the part of nvidia can be considered borderline illegal. They had no regard for their own customers who purchased a titan or a 780.

lmao you're dumb if you think AMD is somehow virtuous and Nvidia is evil.
@blaznwiipspman1: the 290(X) architecture was most likely already in development before Kepler cards was even released. Now tell me how they could simply come up with a faster core from the time 780 was released until the 290(X) was released.
@horgen123:
With Hawaii, notice the four Radeon HD 7770 type GPU blocks.
Each block has

Radeon HD 7770 (Cape Verde)
Radeon HD 290X is like a quad Radeon HD 7770 CrossFire i.e. ~4X CU, 4X ROPS, 4X geometry processors, 4X Rasterizer and 'etc'
7770 has

Radeon HD 7870 GE is like dual Radeon HD 7770 CrossFire i.e. 2X CU, 2X ROPS, 2X geometry processors, 2X Rasterizer and 'etc'

Radeon HD 7970 doesn't directly scale from 7770 or 7870 i.e. the odd ball in the family.

AMD could create an internal quad 7790 crossfire as R9-290X's replacement i.e.

For comparison, current R9-290X's layout.

AMD could have released R9-290X Ghz Edition (from 1 Ghz or higher) with reference cooler from 7990.

No, some of some are busy with other things outside of Gamespot, in the "real world". Can't respond to every quote this minute.

Explain to me how is it not "shady" for nVidia not to provide compensation for the "bump gate" GPU's that they provided to laptop maker and it took a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT and nVidia losing in COURT and finally being FORCED to provide compensation to people who brought their defective GPUs for their laptops.
What's worse is that they only provided compensation to only certain brands of laptops not other brands. That's the reason I was a victim because I brought a nVidia 17" Gaming Laptop that died on me because of "bump gate" and nVidia's refusal to provide me compensation. They kept on denying and denying and not provide compensation to other owners of laptop makers. What's even worse is that some Alienware gaming laptop owners who almost paid twice as my Gaming Laptop that became a victim of bump gate. I heard of Alienware owners who had to "cook" their nVidia GPUs every couple of months just TO GET THEM TO WORK. It's ridiculous that people who spent $2000 dollars to buy Gaming Laptops who have to "cook" their laptops in their ovens just to get their nVidia GPUs to work.
This is beyond evil. When Toyota provided defective braking systems on their cars they fully MANNED UP and provided replacement for free. Why doesn't nVidia MAN UP and provide compensation to other laptop owners that had defective nVidia GPUs on their laptops?
I switched to AMD on a new 17" Gaming Laptop and what do you know it's been 4 years and it hasn't died on me. I even overclock the AMD GPU when gaming and it's been working like a charm (so far). So, explain to me that?
Yeah, nVidia not being shady my a**.

Its not Nvidia responsibility for laptop manufacturers to provide warranties. Also the bump gate issues was a material manufacturing issue along with other aspects such as how the heaksink was pressed against the back side of the GPU, how much pressure is applied to the GPU back side, how the GPU is supported on the board, etc., has a tremendous impact on the integrity of the flip chip bump interconnect. The greater the pressure on the GPU, the greater the potential damage to the interfaces of the bump to the GPU and the bump to the substrate pad. Also The left over flux residue can melt at low temperatures and further aggravate the reliability of the interconnection. because the thermal designs of laptops and desktops are different and pressures cause connection sections to degrade over time.
Blaming Nvidia on a single problem and becoming a fanboy for another brand is so dumb. AMD have their fair share of issues too such as high gpu failure rates in Macbooks from 2011. Or how about AMD's more recent black screen issues because of bad batches of material. Or even AMD's 7970 series having such a higher failure then other cards.
OP has reminded me that, every once in awhile, I need to take a step back and realize that half of the population is stupider than average.

Problem with your argument is that there was common denominator on all the issues and that they were ALL nVidia GPUs. Mainly the GeForce Go 7XXX series and the Go 8XXX series which I had. This effected several PC makers that had all those nVidia GPUs. If it was just the PC makers fault there would be CLASS ACTION lawsuit against nVidia from which they rightfully lost. It was nVidia who had to fork over the dough for it. Unfortunately for me, Alienware and Samsung owners that had these defective GPUs we will not get any compensation.
While it is not out of the question that there will be defective GPUs but the fact that this was so widespread that nVidia was in total denial until they got sued and lost the class action lawsuit. They lost because it was their defective die packaging which was totally nVidia's fault for which they switched to something better in their GT 2XX series. There wasn't this widespread issue from AMD or else they too would have a class action lawsuit for their defective GPUs.
I was a nVidia fan boy going back to their Riva 128 days. But switched because they were charging higher amounts for their high end GPUs for which I was in the market for and then the defective laptop GPUs was the camel that broke staw that broke the camels back. And what really pissed me off is that I contacted nVidia they started blaming me and my company for their GPU dying when everyone under the sun knew that it was nVidia's fault simply because my gaming laptop was exhibiting the same issues as all those nVidia GPU owners. I am not saying I won't go back to nVidia, I think their sub $300 GPUs are good if not better than AMD's but why did people had to go to court for them to cough up the dough. Why didn't they just admit their faults and fix it and move on. This is what Toyota did when they had those defective brakes, they manned up and did the replacement free of charge. Same thing with Honda when they replaced the circuit board that powers the LCD screen in their audio system for free because it was a known defect. I mean please, if there is known issue, nVidia should have just manned up and fixed it instead of giving their customers the run around and be in a state of denial all along.
A graphics card can be replaced. A gaming GPU inside a laptop can't. A 17" Gaming Laptop costs 2X the amount a high end laptopI mean with that much money I could have AT LEAST a SLI setup with money to spare. I won't even go into people who people who brought Alienware gaming laptops they could have brought 2 Titans and run it in SLI. It's ridiculous that my friends buddy has to "cook" his Alienware laptop in the oven every couple of months just to use it.
Too bad I actually liked that laptop and wouldn't have brought my current 17" AMD based gaming laptop. The screen was really nice.

What's wrong with buying a gaming laptop? You are totally ignoring my point, how typical. I finished GTA San Adreas on that Gaming Laptop while on vacation.

Dispute anything in that article. Funny, no one has one yet to come up with anything that is factually incorrect in that article.
^I did but you refused to admit it was wrong. The entire title of this award says nothing of it being consumer chip. Yet you argue that it was implied.
Any who your wrong I am right, yet you will argue till the Moon flies into the Sun and the Earth is ruled by Canada.

Well the article did say it's an award based on "consumer" chip. If you did read the article it did state that. Or else they would have brought in nVIdia and AMD's professional level GPU.
