X2 6400+ 3.2 GHz to compete with E6850 3.0 GHz
What do you think ?
It will be able to beat E6750 @ 2.66 GHz ?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
[QUOTE="AARONRULZ1"]The X2 6400 won't be able to beat a E6850,but it'll probably be equal with the E6750.

The X2 3Ghz is only equal with E6600. Adding 0.2GHz is nothing.
We'll just see about that.[QUOTE="AARONRULZ1"]The X2 6400 won't be able to beat a E6850,but it'll probably be equal with the E6750.

indeed and it will probbly be alot more expensive than the currently available 6000+ and not provide much more performance.
AMD will change their strategy before they go bankrupt.
They're already giving up on being the "best and fastest."
They're almost starting to take a Wii approach of "we know we're not the fastest, but for the price you can't beat it." I would expect them corner to the "bargain" market. Just look at what they did with ATi and the 2900...

The wii approach has nothing to do with this! They want the no gamers to be casual gamers.
And from what i've seen, Nvidia has better middle-range cards then ati. I was expecting way more of the 2900 when it was hyped back then. And where's the 2900xtx version?
Yeah. AMD is screwed if they dont release phenomen soon, and it better be good. They are very close to bankrupt ATM.
domke13
Link that proves that?
[QUOTE="domke13"][QUOTE="LikkleLee"]nah, i doubt they will get bankruptwklzip
If phenomen fails, than most likely yes.
remember they are now with ATI, if both fail many times then maybe they can go bankrupt.
ATI already failed whit 2 series cards. They dont have card to compete in highest level of GPUs and dont have decent mi-range cards. IMO they already failed. At least this gen.

The Wii appeals to more people because of its lower price tag. That the comparison I was trying to draw. They don't try to hide the fact that their hardware is less powerful.

Uhhh, you need power to run PC games... I ain't buying a PC to have a wii graphics.
The wii appeals to more because of the low price and the family games. The price might be low, but if you don't have games that go with it... nobody will buy it. The Wii headed in a different direction with there controlers.

I'm not talking about the gameplay I'm talking about the price.
For example, if they change to that strategy, next time they put out a chip they're not going to try to "compete" with Intel. Instead, they'll take a different route that is cheaper and still appealing. Like a CPU that is designed to run new games and intereact better with DX10 hardware that might lag in the home desktop processing category.
Obviously you need powerful hardware to play PC games, however, with AMD and ATI working together, you don't have to pay top dollar to get powerful hardware, even though it's not the MOST powerful. The fastest AMD chip with the fastest ATI card is probably 5% slower than the Nvidia/Intel combo but costs 20% less. More bang for your buck.

AMD processors still sell well.At least they caught up with the e6700 (the 6000+ was right between the e6600 and e6700 in performance).
I bet this thing won'toverclock much more than 100MHz. It's still on that ancient 90nm process, and some 6000+ chips can onlybarely make 3.2GHz.

First of all, your the one who brought up the Wii in comparison, where the whole point of a Wii is gameplay and accessible to everyone(from kids to old people).
Your talking more on the software side with DX10 and game developers. Also I rather have a complete PC, one that is good when i play games + good when i do other stuff. This is the whole point of a PC or else I would just get a console.
Right now, on the market, I believe Intel and Nvidia offers a better ratio on price/performance over it's competition. Right now the best combo at the moment would be intel q6600 or a e6750 with a nivdia 8800gts 320mb.
I'm curious why it's not 65nm.X360PS3AMD05
Because it dosent offer anymore performance and doesnt overclock any better. You need to change the architecture first.

Where does it say it isn't 65nm?
BTW- you don't need to change the architecture to have it run cooler/overclock better.
Edit- As for AMD failing/going bankrupt, all I have to say is... NO! Not even close.
They would do quite a bit of restructuring and reorganizing before they ever went bankrupt.
They still have more then enough cash for some 2-3 more quarters of operation.

Thanks for the link.
Run cooler usually is assumed under overclock better.
We could all assume that.
But I'll assume they won't make one 65nm since it's not worth the money for the performance difference and new architecture is coming.

7900gtx, competed with the x1900xtx, no doubt, and the x1950xtx beat that, sure the midrange wasn't very strong, but the x1650xt is on par with the 7600gt.

Before thats true, but now they are extremely similarly priced the 7600 is 90 dollars the the x1650xt is 95 dollars.

It is a fact, not an opinion, that the Wii sells better than any other console and one of the main reasons is the price.
AMD and ATI are aware that there is a section of the market that looks for bargains and they attempt to appeal to that section of the market...people who want to game on the cheap.
