amd is reworking the hd 7950. the 7950 ghz edition is alot like the 7970ghz edition. higher quality core for greater ocing headroom, powertune and boost, stock clocks raised. and this time NO REFERENCE COOLER (hallelujia lets be honest here)

http://www.techpowerup.com/168620/AMD-Readies-Radeon-HD-7950-GHz-Edition.html

estimated opening price sits at about $375 :D

round 2 nvidia *headbuts match bell*

the hd 7950ghz edition will launch right along side the hd 7930

would it be better to wait for the new 7950 or buy one now? when do they plan on releasing these cards?

and can you explain to me why the 7870 has a core clock of 1000 MHz while the 7950 reference is only 800 MHz.. what does this mean?

the architecture used in the hd 7900 series can withstand higher clocks to amd overclocks it higher the ones in the hd 7800 series cannot so that dontraise them as high.

the more reasonable way to go would be to buy now no sense in waiting the tx2 variant that is the 7950 GHZ edition will at best be slightly worse than a 7970 somehting you can already achieve by manually changing settings on an hd 7950 you bought at a store today.

you could have always made the title: AMD messed up, revises and releases cards. :P

Postmortem123

probably make the race much closer. outpreforming. ehhhhh..

maybe out temping it or out clocking it maybe there is even a snowballs chance of being better in multi-card scaling but better preformer period. this is unlikely

Depends on the games.

http://techreport.com/articles.x/23150/1

Zotac GTX 670 AMP vs XFX HD 7950 Black (900Mhz).

skyrim-fps.gif

crysis-fps.gif'

dirt-fps.gif

power-load.gif

Atm, the fastest 7950 is Sapphire HD 7950 OC 950MHz Edition.

I can run my 7950 @ 950Mhz without changing the voltage.

Buy the factory overclock model. Factory overclock model has additional testing and it's guaranteed by the card's vendor.

Depends on the games. 7950 900 Mhz version is very close to the normal 7970. Then there's Sapphire 7950 950 Mhz version.
