AMD x2 vs. Core 2 Duo

I realize I'm a little late to the ball here, but didn't find the answer to my question with a forum search, so here we go...

As I've been preparing to upgrade mobo/CPU/RAM, the only things i've been looking at have been Core 2 Duos - I realize they are great processors, but I'd at least like to get some info regarding the AMD dual-core CPUs.

Namely - what would a similar AMD be with regards to, say, a 6400 C2D? Is there anything?

Do the AMD processors run on the old pin mobos? (I'm running a 3500+ at the moment, on an Asus SLI board). I wouldnt' think they would, but that might play into me choosing an AMD CPU instead of an intel.

Anyway, just curious. Thanks.

Do the AMD dual-cores work with older mobos? I've got an Asus A8n-SLI, 939pin connector-style board. jazztrumpet5

i think my 4400+ X2 was the last 939 worth getting. but dont base everything on that quake 4 chart. different games run better with different equipment. its most likely that a game will run best with what it was originally programmed with for obvious reasons. i prefer amd, very broad ocing with mine. intel usually locks theirs, but thats just me.

Most likely, if I'm upgrading a mobo and processor, I'll be going intel. I do like to be informed about the other guys, though. :)
